Re: The "Slowcore" thread
Damn, how did I not know Brokaw was in The New Year?
He had an acoustic duo with Geoff Farina, if anyone's looking for more folk! It's not very slowcore, but...
Farina is pretty hit or miss for me, but this sounds nice
My fav, but audio quality is low:

These are good too & have better audio Q:

I used to listen a lot to Rex. 'C' is still a favorite: The writing and the playing are really really solid. "New Dirge" in particular was on repeat for quite awhile. I'm especially fascinated with the snare sound for some reason. I know, odd.

Though the genre police might take issue with calling that slowcore. To that I say "Fuck The (Genre) Police!"

Re: The "Slowcore" thread
A bit late of a reply but I never knew Chris Brokaw was in the New Year. I started listening to them when the End is Near came out and played that one and Newness Ends repeatedly over a few years. Such great records. I never was into Bedhead before then either and I had been around in Austin when they were playing. Pretty sure I saw them but can't remember. Anyway, I got into Codeine via Frigid Stars in 2008 and that led me to Come and know Chris was in both. I just listened to an interview with him on Conan's Neutron's Protonic Reversal which led me to his solo work. I had bought one of his solo records awhile back but wasn't into it too much. I love this song off his new record, been playing it everyday for about a week and a half really loud in the car. I think I may even buy the vinyl just for this track.tuneintokyo wrote:LaoWiz wrote:Didn't see any postings of Come. Don't consider slow core like Low, Bedhead, or Codeine. Bit more rocking but Chris Brokaw was in both so worth posting:

Also, pre - Seam, Bitch Magnet is a little rowdier but live in the same world as slow core to me. Love this one:

Chris Brokaw is one prolific dude, I loved Codeine back in the day, the guy has done like 25 solo records, saw him play solo and got to meet him, super down to earth and friendly guy! He's also been in way too many bands to mention but a couple notables I didn't see mentioned here are the New Year which is him and the Kadane brothers ala Bedhead and Consonant which is Chris Brokaw, one of the Kadane brothers and Chris Conley of Mission Of Burma, good stuff! Check it out! I also love Seam!

Re: The "Slowcore" thread
Thanks, LaoWiz, hadn't heard that interview.
That new song sounds great!
(Also, found out from that podcast that there's a new Part Chimp record. Hadn't known about that either. Thank you!

Re: The "Slowcore" thread
Yes, I think I am going to buy the vinyl for that new song alone. I took work's Sansui receiver home as we are putting everything in storage and now have a perfect setup in the garage. My last receiver was sounding like crap and this one is amazing.Chankgeez wrote:Thanks, LaoWiz, hadn't heard that interview. That new song sounds great!

Lots of great guests on Conan's show and it has a pretty nice archive. That's how I found out about the new Part Chimp too. Haven't give a proper listen yet, though...

Re: The "Slowcore" thread
Well, someone should start (re)posting some Low stuff. R.I.P. Mimi Parker.
Low was always a band I liked in a low-key kinda way, maybe befitting their vibe. But the older their old stuff gets, tho, I think the better it sounds. These ones popped up on my timelines today:
