Yeah it is a commonly observed phenomenon isn't it. With no projects, gear becomes... just gear for its own sake. Which to me isn't as fun.

So this sounds like a good way to get in the right space. Rather than instantly wiring up a giant monster and then having option paralysis.
Yeah, this is almost definitely the way I need to take this

Like what was shared earlier - I think getting a main sound or two that you can't get enough of is key. For me lately, I can't enough of my guitar through the bigger RML MiG Fuzz I have into my amps clean channel. Everything else on top of that is awesome and fun - the modulation/delay/reverb/glitchy pedals all works so good with this tone I have going on.

I think this is great advice. But you could also take it from the other end of the zucchini.

What is the one pedal that you dislike the most right now? Plug into it only. Try to play things
you aren't happy with. Now try digging your way up from the discomfort until you feel sunlight.

Sometimes constraints spur the most creativity.

Hmm I like this idea a lot too. I might also combine the two approaches. Pick a pedal I like a lot and one that I haven't been jiving with and see what happens
