Source Audio Ultra Wave seems promising for unique sounds. Dunno if all that is just cool to me, though.

Ultrawave is a sleeper. So much potential in that little box...hope it's not destined for obscurity like v1. Not a simple pedal by any means - almost a very niche multi FX. Not sure what that niche is though.

Can we keep talking about that Ultrawave? I have to build GAS for it to justify all the effort I need to make to get one.

From the few demos I've seen, I'm not impressed by the sound of it as I found it very flat and not fuzzy enough, but feature wise it's yummy

And talking about "things we hate now", Ultrawave and this boring sound + great features thing reminds me of all the Chase Bills pedals.

Ok... I have now done as you done and checked on this “ultra”wave...

First as someone that has a lot of pedals.. I think I could get close to most of those sounds easily..
What is cool about it?
It’s small. And more than likely cheaper than what I have that would get those sounds.
Do I want it?
No. I dislike Swiss army knife gear, I’d think it was cool for about a week then I’d end up using it for one specific sound or flip it.
It reminds me of the 90s/2000s synth pedals like the digitech and boss... just updated and SLIGHTLY less cheesy.
Should you buy it?
Sure why not, you might get a idea for a song out of it.

Oh, BTW, the Bliss Factory isn’t boring me. I found a great treble boost-y chattery clean thing the other day that was awesome. I had kind of written off Fuzz Face-like clean-up stuff when I got it, but am happy to be wrong.

"Texture factory" is a great way to describe it. The pedal is inherently digital and kind of embraces it. You can dial in somewhat traditional gain sounds, but that's not where it shines (although it can do good a Johnny Greenwood-esque solid state distortion and there's a user preset called "Crank" that does a good Catherine Wheel). The digital-ness takes a while to get used to, as the digital clipping is pretty harsh and many of the gain settings are overly chirpy.

There are two channels that can be run series or parallel. Each channel has several modules:

• Compressor/Expander (very good on it's own)

• Multiband distortion - many different frequency bands to choose from, gain+level on each, many different distortion types with a focus on digital and foldback distortion

• Multiband tremolo + ring mod - independent volume on each frequency band for pattern/sequence sounds

• Traditional tremolo

• 10 band EQ

• Morphing control that shifts between two distortion/EQ settings based on input envelope or LFO

I'm probably missing a few things.

It seems like every parameter interacts with other settings, so I've also been caught in some endless tweaking. Some of that is the learning curve although Source Audio has done a decent job with UI given the scope of the pedal.

It shines in tandem with other effects, especially when they can soften some of the digital-ness. It's very synthy and kind of forces you to play to it.

I've had mine for a couple of weeks and only scratched the surface. My biggest complaints are the need for the desktop editor and external hardware. I love multi effects and menu diving, so it's not a huge deal, but I prefer to be able to access everything via hardware.

Still very much in the honeymoon phase. As a concept, it's a fascinating pedal. In action...I'm curious to see how it holds up over time. It's unique. Like I said before, it's a very niche pedal but I have no idea what that niche is.

I'm going to be thinking about "Chase Bills" all day. I just bought a Mood, because I like to be two years behind on trends. I started wondering if I could make a Mood soundalike patch on the Beebo, and then I thought about how dumb I am and how many hours it would take to get anywhere with this idea so I just bought the pedal.

I'm still hating secondary knob functions. The Ultrawave takes that idea to a new level, but I'm still kind of interested.

That's where the love is. I haven't found other standalone units doing that, not even the $800 Analog Heat, which is the closest thing I can think of.

Can you control every parameter with the envelope? And how many per preset?

Only certain parameters are tied to the envelope. Off the top of my head: distortion type, individual band gain and levels, graphic EQ bands, tremolo speed...I’m probably missing some.

There’s one envelope per channel (2 per preset). And it affects all parameters tied to it at once. No way to independently set different envelope settings for say, drive and EQ on the same channel.

No negative values. The envelope settings are pretty simple- input gain and attack.

So mild evolutionary improvements on existing stuff or recombinations of features without at core giving truly new sounds. Think CBA Gen Loss and Bliss Factory, CFX Gen Loss v2, the Eventide dot9 series. Look, I bought a 1st run Bliss Factory because I like the control and presets, so I valued that evolution of the Fuzz Factory, but the core sounds are decades old. Gen Loss v2 is the recent flippers’ hype, but it’s an improved version of a product with prior versions—all of them really cool, sure. The Eventide stuff is really old algorithms in knobby form that do but one (admittedly very good) algorithm per pedal vs the knobby Factor pedals. The MicroPitch and UltraTap add some sound-generating extras vs Factor and H9 versions, but it’s a bit of the “new hat.”

So Zoia is a good option to be new-hat-proof. I went for a more expensive path with VSIG Eventide rack harmonizers. Trick is actually putting in the effort to add on the new hat to a preexisting algorithm.

New sounds? Vongon Paragraphs does some stuff that’s new to me. Haven’t played a Pladask Feber but the demos give me new-sounds feels. Source Audio Ultra Wave seems promising for unique sounds. Dunno if all that is just cool to me, though.
