Support friendly small builders directly (Mask Audio, Champion Leccy, Stomping Stones, Malaise Forever, BSRI, all the ILF Shark Tank peeps, etc.) , like always! :joy:

Don't trust anyone trying to sell you a $499 pedlol, unless it has some sort of dealbreaker status you can't live without (like the Zoia....maybe)! If said device can be equipped with a $79 sneeze guard, you probably don't need that, either (but maybe you do!).

Much like food, buying or trading locally and sustainably is best for everybody involved, if you can swing it. And sometimes you just need another Death Metal, ya dig? :summon:

Cables are essential and you probably need a new one (the saddest truth there ever was), so buy a pink one!

Instagram is a plague most times, but every builder over there still lurks ILF without an account because we have the best ideas (though not as much disposable income as the P&W crowd).

There are no such things as good dudes, just good deeds. That probably costs more time in the long run, but you reap what you sow (be excellent to each other). :bear:

Also everybody has a synthesizer now (or two or three) because it's still cheaper than going full modular (especially with all the $200 clones of everything), so buy another one!

And soon we'll all be able to control our rigs with our minds, but you know that's gonna be hella expensive, and you already have all those cables anyway so :?:

The paradigm has shifted!

The formula for enjoyment of effects pedals is now: [number of times you refreshed the webpage while waiting for the pedal to 'drop'] + [instagram clout obtained by posting picture of pedal surrounded by carefully arranged random objects] + [profit obtained upon flipping pedal after it sells out]

:omg:

Basically what coupleonapkins said, though.
I think preamp, cab sim and multi-fx peds have gotten real good in the last few years. And modular-type peds like the Zoia and Beebo have opened up a lot of new possibilities for those of us that haven't been sucked into the modular rabbit-hole yet.

Napkins has got the builders nailed.

I’d add rare buzzer, and Dunn Effects. Bardic Audio did a custom for me that was sick.

A+ replies in here. But the good news is that smaller runs of cool circuits are coming back without the hypetrain, at least a little bit?
good deals are here.

For sure! And yeah, some brands have grown and their prices are fucked when new and worse after the hype train flips.

But there's a whole bunch of folks doing stuff that everyone can afford. Dr Sci lowered his prices. Dudes like Fuzzsimp, Rare Buzz, Mask Audio all have sick pedals around the 100 mark. That is Devi money, except these dudes are engineering pedals like nobody's business. Remember when it was like Wampler and Dr Ryantist who were doing boards that were routed all cool with the box caps and lined up resistors and what not? Just look at this: https://www.instagram.com/p/CN5fF9SssvP/

You have people donating profits from pedals to good causes, black rights, trans rights, local music coops and stuff.

None of that shit is on prymaxe or anywhere else, it's all person to person.

Ellman Tone is another great builder doing stuff on vero but with great prices, lovely graphics, super nice tonez. Midfi is still banging out cool stuff. Fowl Sounds makes some rad shit.

Gorva Design is like a boutique company for pedal builders making next level enclosures, switches, knobs etc for small builders.

I haven't been this hype about pedals since back in the forum's heyday - it's everything I used to love about ILF. Builders loving their craft, doing small scale stuff, talking with the folks who buy em, short runs of wacky stuff or functional stuff. I really missed that when Dr Sci grew up, EQD became Boss, JHS became the doyen of boutique**, SmallBri BigBri went awol. Maybe stuff was happening I just didn't know how to find it. IDK.

FUck. ELECTRONIC AUDIO EXPERIMENTS.
Bee's knees.

**How in the fuck this happened is beyond me.

Don't worry... the P&W ambient/drone/ethereal/synthesis wave is coming!! the new age was a major force in this music a while back and still hovers there and a lot of the older ones have been subverted by Qanon and the big C... prepare to hate all that you love :thumb:

There’s a certain amount of Malibu Stacy’s new hat syndrome going on.
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaOgZwk9rN8[/youtube]

So mild evolutionary improvements on existing stuff or recombinations of features without at core giving truly new sounds. Think CBA Gen Loss and Bliss Factory, CFX Gen Loss v2, the Eventide dot9 series. Look, I bought a 1st run Bliss Factory because I like the control and presets, so I valued that evolution of the Fuzz Factory, but the core sounds are decades old. Gen Loss v2 is the recent flippers’ hype, but it’s an improved version of a product with prior versions—all of them really cool, sure. The Eventide stuff is really old algorithms in knobby form that do but one (admittedly very good) algorithm per pedal vs the knobby Factor pedals. The MicroPitch and UltraTap add some sound-generating extras vs Factor and H9 versions, but it’s a bit of the “new hat.”

So Zoia is a good option to be new-hat-proof. I went for a more expensive path with VSIG Eventide rack harmonizers. Trick is actually putting in the effort to add on the new hat to a preexisting algorithm.

New sounds? Vongon Paragraphs does some stuff that’s new to me. Haven’t played a Pladask Feber but the demos give me new-sounds feels. Source Audio Ultra Wave seems promising for unique sounds. Dunno if all that is just cool to me, though.
