I have a EGC ghost (SG) with an acrylic body and its heavy as shit! It does sound great with sustain for days but I'm on the fence about selling it TBH. Its about 15 LBS and isn't very balanced so its kind of a pain to play standing up with the neck dive. I doubt I'll ever play a show with it so sitting down and playing it isn't really an issue but sometimes I just want to stand up when I play. I also had an EGC bolt on jazzmaster at one point in time and while I liked the neck profile and the way it sounded with the novak wide range pickups it was also really heavy and unbalanced too.

I had one, and it has a unique profile. If you decide it's not for you, you can easily flip it for the $ in you paid.

I've built 2 aluminum neck guitars, they are 1.25" half round aluminum rod for the neck with a fretboard laminated on top/onside of it and its dovetailed into an aluminum rod in the body. I can't say I notice any more sustain with the way I've been making them, but if there is anything different I think it's increase in articulation/note clarity.
I saw some Uli Teufel vid posted on here where he took a block of wood, hit it with a mallet to show how dead it sounded, then he cut the same block of wood in to 4 strips, glued them together and got a nice resonant DONK sound when he hit it, making the point that its not so much about the material but about the form, this made me think about making a guitar like i've been doing but having a seperate aluminum rod welded to the head and going into the body on the bass side of the neck as like a big rod to carry bass frequencies or get really big bass response. Maybe it'd be cool for ppl into sludgy doom shit?

I don't have any feelings on aluminum necks one way or the other in regards to toan, I just think they look cool and its an interesting way to build guitars/open to new possibilities.

I don't really see the point in the conversion necks either. Neck through is the way, the whole of my EGC resonates like crazy.

Setup flexibility and cost/wait time are huge reasons to go with bolt on necks. With a bolt on you can adjust the neck angle if necessary while neck through instruments have a fixed neck angle that I have found to cause some issues with EGCs. My bolt-on build certainly played much much better than what I got in my EGC neck through build. The bolt necks from various companies are also readily available at an achievable price. Most neck through instruments are well over $2000-$3000+ and no one makes one that is readily available. Even companies that try to start out with a plan to deliver in a few months quickly get backlogged to a year or more wait time.

I have RGI bolt ons, which are onepiece solid. I've noticed a lot of added sustain. I know some other builders use two piece necs or mix materials, and i've heard that there is less sustain.

Can anyone describe the difference between the two EGC neck finishes (polished and brushed w/wax seal)?

Polished will be stickier but polished looks cool. Brushed is a slicker faster feel because there is less contact area with your hand.

Agree with the above however, I dislike sticky wood necks but love sticky aluminium necks.

The more I read the more I need to find a Kramer and jam on one - my attention is shifting towards a class D head with an IR or some sort of combo but POST on. I really like the feed back

Don't know if they are the outliers or not but there are folks around here who have gone through entire skin cycles (7 years+) waiting on their EGC orders. I love my EGC but if you want to mitigate frustration, you might consider second-hand.

Yeah don't order a new EGC. You'll wait years and the guitar might not live up to your expectations.
