Thanks guys. I've just messed a bit with the setup and it plays really well. The strings are sticky but I ordered some labella/GT flats (silverbacks) which should take care of that problem. I hope it otherwise will still be as easy to play. I really like how the strings don't seem to have too much tension and they just play effortlessly.

Also the sound is really cool I like that it is a transducer pickup and how you can boost bass and treble. Starting with both on zero gives a regular bass sound to me and adding just a bit of treble really gives it a contrabass kind of sound. Lovely

that looks like a whole bucket of fun. and with that, a 22.5" Duo Sonic or one of the Squier Mini Strats/JMs, and a battery-operated portable digital 4-track you could have a traveling studio for road trips when those epic soundscapes start collecting in the corners of your mind with instruments that are actually comfortable to play as opposed to those awful Höfner Shorty things. and you could hide the whole thing under your sleeping bag. in a big country your dreams could stay with you like a lover's voice on a mountainside

I got a Bronco recently and modded it a bit. It’s surprisingly great now. Probably the best instrument for the money out there.

I bought it used, so I don't know how they play/sound stock. Mine had already had a Fender "tele bass" pickup installed, which had weak output and sounded terrible. It also has a flat-black paint job, which doesn't seem to be original. Looks cool though. Other than that, I think it was stock.

The stock nut was plastic and had been worn pretty bad because the original owner was using long-scale roundwound strings, and moving that much course string over the nut wore it down. The very first thing I did was get a new nut (found a brass one on eBay) and put La Bella short-scale flats on it. The original wiring was super gross too, so I got a GFS "Lil's Killer" blade humbucker and rewired it with new pots and jack (with a pull-switch jack for coil-split). The stock bridge wasn't terrible, but it only had two saddles and getting the E and A to intonate properly was impossible, so I installed a Hipshot 4-saddle replacement. Lastly, purely for aesthetics, I replaced the white pickguard with a black one (also from eBay). All-in-all, I probably have around $400 into it, and it plays and sounds as nice as my buddy's Fender Player Mustang.

The main thing is that the neck is solid, the frets were level, and it has a good neck/body balance. Everything else can be fixed. I might replace the tuners one day, but honestly, they seem totally fine.

Cool! Sounds good. I'm in the market for a short scale and I've always been sort of intrigued by these but "oh they are so cheap they must be bad". maybe not!

Yep. Kinda like Fender Aztec Gold, except you dont really see them with the green tarnish, so i'd guess the paint formula is closer what Gibson used on gold tops.

Maybe it has to do with it not being nitro? Are these ones active too like the 2ks? Love that they have an active preamp with passive EQ knobs

The tarnish actually has to do with the metal flake in the paint and it oxidizes green (like a penny). Its a copper alloy like bronze i think. And no, this is a passive bass. Early G&Ls (even the L-2000) were passive, though i'm not sure the actual timeline and models for when they switched to certain ones being active.
