I'm GASing for a spluttery, lasergun sounding fuzz. While still being usable and not just a mess.
Perfect example- Howlin' for you - black keys - brothers.
any suggestions?

well the fuzz used in that song that to me sounds more like a bee than a lazer... but yeah, good sound!
that is 100% an Ibanez Standard Fuzz. I'm guessing that it's plugged straight into the board too and set to the mid-cut tone switch.

Creepy Fingers made me a clone of one a while back and it's amazing. you should drop him a line and see if he can hook you up.

That mosquito buzz noise? I don't think that's even fuzz -- sounds like either DI or a small amp on the edge of catching fire. Sounds like there's a fuzz bass under it too.
There's a really honking little fuzz called the Fuzzder that sounds just like that though -- one of those 70s Japanese buzz boxes. It's trying to be a Maestro Fuzztone but doesn't quite get it.
I'd try a Fuzzrite if I were you -- it'll get you close. Def more buzz than fuzz.

This is a Supro into a tiny Tweed amp I believe.. In that premier guitar article they talk about it and he says it was something along those lines, no fuzz was used on it he said.

Re: Spluttery/lasergun sounding fuzz
Just because he didn't use a fuzz on it doesn't mean there isn't a spluttery sounding fuzz which could get similar results... Its nice to know what he used on the record but im not all that interested in getting that exact tone... I just wanted to know if anyone had an experience which some spluttery fuzzes and had some suggestions..
