So, yesterday I have acquired the most middle of the road pedal ever, a VP jr!
But I wanted a volume pedal forever and at times I’ve even wanted to save up for a Lehle or Goodrich. Anyway this was a good deal and local. So I’ve only had little time with it but I’m flattened as to how much fun can be had with this thing.
a) routing - using the tuner out to one chain and the normal out to a different chain. This is what made me jump on the pedal, I needed a way to split signals and didn’t want to get a simple aby splitter.
b) sirens and shit - going into delay, so much fun!
c) violin shenanigans - makes so much sense with an eBow.
d) backward sounds - putting a compressor and reverb in front of the pedal to increase sustain and then slowly fade in and quickly fade out to fake a backwards effect. Works a charm.
e) Derek Bailey - some weird sounds to be had by cutting out the attack in “unconventional technique”
What else is there? Anything I should definitely try?
Also, people that don’t use a volume pedal like I did for too long: wake up! It’s only theoretically that you can do the same stuff with the volume knob!

f) psychotic & drunk tremolos, try using it like you would with a wah
g) changing instruments in the middle of something like when using a looper; do the first loop on one thing turn the pedal down, switch, turn up and do 2nd loop or just play along with next instrument
h) find your inner steel guitarist

at least 30% of what i play when looping is totally dependent on the volume pedal. i don't use it as much for normie applications other than faux pedal steel. but for the freer stuff i need those swells for doing background pads and fucking with the attack on individual notes. it will be really interesting to hook everything up because with the Attack Decay i'll have the option of a more mechanical sweep as well as the manual volume pedal.
