Fuzz experts needed... Can you identify these fuzzes?

Post by Radiohead625 »

I'm hoping someone with a good ear can help me identify what type of fuzz is being used in these two songs or a circuit that can get close.

Goat - "Let It Burn"

Sleepy Sun - "Marina"

I'm guessing the second one is some kind of Big Muff? Sounds somewhat close to Sleepy Silver Door by Dead Meadow. I don't have a clue on the first one. Either way, I appreciate the help!

Damn I haven't thought about Sleepy Sun in a hot minute.

Goat are an absolute fucking blast live, but I can't remember any of their gear from gigs, sorry. Both of them sound pretty big muffy to me, just dial the tone knob up on the Muff and for the Sleepy Sun thing use something like a Rat in front of it for the "normal" tone (this is the Jason Simon trick/Dead Meadowisms)

Google Fu confirms this theory:

+1

Their two first albums are pretty rad, but the third one was pretty shit. Haven't really followed them after that. Have they managed to do something listenable in the last 10 years?

Great find! And ya, the Sleepy Sun tone immediately reminded me of Dead Meadow and should have went with my gut. I couldn't find anything on Goat at all... and to me the fuzz sounds a bit more gated than a muff, idk.
