Yeah, to get it to V/2 you might have to reduce the Resistors pretty heavily, I got mine biased with a 10k instead of the 68k and a 50k potentiometer. It might anyway be better to omit the trimmer, find the right resistance value using a pot hooked up with wires and then just solder the closest resistor value to the board.

Regarding the capacitor values, look at MLCC DC Bias Characteristic curves. Basically the capacitance of surface mounted MLCCs decreases with higher DC operating voltage. The capacitance that they sell you is defined at 1V or even 0.1V DC. Foil caps do not show this behavior, so you don't need to compensate the capacitance drop by increasing the capacitor value.

Ian - I’ll message Darcy and see if he can make some samples with his original.

I should have time this weekend I think to record some samples. I assume the stock pedal intentionally had the jfet biased off center due to the resistor + trimmer values.

SMD cap DC bias info... The change varies by manufacturer, cap material, and package size. Some companies provide the info, like Taiyo Yuden, other's don't.

Yeah, as mentioned, even off of the normal bias at half, it sounded nice and boosted going into the input control.

I've seen Darcy's demo on the tube and another one that did a decent pan with the mix to both sides so I think I have a decent idea of what it should sound like. I am more interested in hearing the closest approximation of the clone that we have at this point. Like if JonWain's is pretty dang close I'd be stoked and know that I messed up on my build from his last schematic posted.

I socketed all the caps in question and the reversed transistors and intend on investing some more time in finding the magic combination tomorrow. Any chance voltages were taken at the transistors before the original was disassembled? Was humpty dumpty able to be put back together again?

I'm very sorry but I have had money problems. I am in the process of selling everything I own so that I can continue to pay rent. I need to order some more parts for the build but I have been delaying it until a few weeks when my financial aid arrives from my school. I could order the parts right now if I skip paying rent but I can't build guitar pedals if I am homeless so everything must be done in order. I am very sorry for the trouble I have caused. I closed my store and my website last month because I can't afford to pay the bill. I did everything to the best of my ability. I never planned on a pandemic. I never expected that it was traced wrong. I don't want to say anything negative about Jon because he works for free and he helped me a lot. Things will get better soon. I expect to get some money in two weeks from now. Then I can move things along as fast as I can. I know all this talk doesn't change the situation but I can't stand by without saying anything either.

Before I forget, thanks for the links to the info on the caps schlotte and JW! I got a little more time in on it and have found much better results with lower gain transistors for the reversed transistor pair. It resolves the misbiased (gated, boomy) issue. EYG, i hate to hear that you have fallen on hard times. In the grand scheme of things, effects pedals are not a priority compared to maintaining livelihood and sanity. I hope things turn around for you soon!

I can't imagine anyone here is expecting you to drop everything for the sake of the pedal.

Get yourself sorted out and make sure you don't get stressed about things you have no control over, a month or two is better than getting in such a state that you vanish from the forum, never to be seen again.

I have an original and a (cheap) multimeter; I can grab voltage measurements if that's helpful?

Sure, certainly won't hurt if you don't mind. I can add them to the schematic.
