MAE Black Math? What other fuzz sounds like this?

I know it's nothing ground breaking, I'm sure I've watched dozens of demos of similar sounding fuzz peds...
But I just can't think of anything at the moment, and you guys might save me two hours of going through youtube clips.
I don't remember my old Mastotron being this wooly. Just putting an od in front of my IC muff wasn't the solution either, tried that. I'd rather have just one dedicated pedal btw.

Basically an over the top muff that can spit, sputter,...right? Extra points for suggestions for something <$150 with a small footprint, top jacks,...

Why not just get a Black Math? Not exactly easy to come by here in Europe, so I was hoping I could broaden my options. Cheers.

Dude, I just bought an MAE pedal direct from Alec. He is crazy nice, it was easy to import and his prices are legit - especially now the US dollar has tanked.

:) No shit??

Most of the time it's the import fees that kill the deal for me. They're calculated based on the total I paid, including s&h and VAT. By the time it arrives it ends up costing nearly twice the actually price of the pedal alone :(

Didn't realise the USD conversion is in my advantage atm though :excellent:

Anyway, I just checked, and the MAE website says it's sold out :(
Did you snag the last one?

I have a Titan from MAE if you're interested. It brings the muff wool. PM me if interested. If not, may your quest be successful! :zen:

Thanks, but that's more of a "stripped-down take of the BF", according to the description. And it sounds like it's not that hugely different from my opamp muff :idk:

Alec is getting a new batch painted by pine box customs, and they should be available within the next few weeks I think (they are GOLD!).

"Back in stock mid to late February"

2OOEuro though, including shipping but without import taxes and customs fees...Not cheap for a souped up muff fuzz

Pretty cheap considering how much work it is for one man is my honest opinion. :duck:

That doesn't mean it's not money, but if you want a cheap muff you might want to look at bigger companies who are able to make pedals faster for less money. As for import taxes, that's just rough stuff. It's 25% here of item price and shipping cost, plus a customs fee. So, I feel ya, but that just be the world.

Yeah I know. My brain says "spend a bit more on quality", my bank account says "Mooer's not that bad".

If I could just cut out the s&h+taxes/customs and find something similar that's available closer to home...:/

you could go DIY, stick a micro amp on the input of something like this. fuzzdog can probably build it for you https://shop.pedalparts.co.uk/1978_IC_B ... 54376.aspx

I'm waiting for it to arrive, but I pre-ordered a Sorghum from a newish(?) pedal builder in Canada called Lurch Audio. He's got one left in that batch. That might be a bit too sputtery for what you are looking for, but give it a look and see what you think. I snagged a Maybe? from MAE in the last batch and I think the Sorghum is more in between the Maybe? and the Black Math...going on what I've heard in demos though.

That Sorghum fuzz sure looks stunning. Makes me wish I had an excuse to order one, but it doesn't seem as 'useable' in a band/song context. Awesome noise maker on it's own I'm sure, but it seems to excel at over the top choked fuzz sounds, which dissapear in a live situation with a drum and second guitar :idk:

I'm eager to start playing with other people and see what happens. I play bass mostly so I'm hopeful it doesn't crush me in a mix (but I can always use a boost too)...we'll see, either way, should be a fun time!
