Top 3 ambient reverb pedals ?

I am using Fabrikat too, sounds great. Does the subtle version sound similar to Context 2 (Grains w less density)?

What do you folks think about the standalone Blackhole pedal for this purpose? I'm a little torn. On one hand it seems a little strange to have a pedal dedicated to a single algorithm that is available in many other formats, on the other hand it's smaller, cheaper, and easier to control.

I've never played the Context V2, so I couldn't be 100% sure. I just plugged in my Draume and then had a listen to a demo of the Context. The Context's grain mode sounds to me like a somewhat smearable multi-tap hall/plate reverb, similar to the Afterneath or the OBNE reverb on the Mood. It sounds like a combination of a hall reverb, with some taps. The Draume V1 like I said reminded me a lot of Fabrikat, and on V2 it's kind of in between those two things - more stuttery and jittery than the context, but less of a straightforward granular sound like the Fabrikat. I don't know if that totally makes sense.

Also of note, it sounds like when the modulation and decay are quite high on the Context V2 Grain setting that it sounds slightly reminiscent of the Ghost setting on the Empress Reverb, which also sounds similar to the Blackhole setting on the Space (and the Blackhole standalone of course).

In the meantime i have checked out a few Draume videos (thanks UC, awesome demo!), sounds excellent and indeed much like Fabrikat.

The Blackhole reference of the Context 2 Grain setting makes a lot of sense, RP compare it to Ursa Major Spacestation, Valhalla has a blog post where Blackhole is described as a well tuned network of multitap delay lines.
Somewhere else i read Cloud and Blackhole are coming from the same school of thought.

I have ordered a Context 2 and an Oceans 12 to compare. Oceans 12 has a Lo-Fi knob for reducing diffusion.
Would be rad if that makes it sound a bit ike Ultratap or some scattered reverb.
Ventris can also reduce density for most algorithms. (via its editor).

The Boss RV500 is good value and very versatile. Its reverse reverb is probably the best available in a modern pedal and can simulate old rack unit effects. Two reverbs can also be used at the same time in parallel or series, along with two separate delays.

The disadvantages are that the maximum decay time is only 10 seconds and it's a bit complicated!

The Boss RV500 is good value and very versatile. Its reverse reverb is probably the best available in a modern pedal and can simulate old rack unit effects. Two reverbs can also be used at the same time in parallel or series, along with two separate delays.

I just ignore that this is the only pedal that does non-linear with all the parameters. Thank goodness I got two alesises already.

Honestly tho they could have used all that dual algorithm shit to make a pedal that is half DD - half RV

What have you found to be the best way of testing a reverb apart from playing an instrument through the pedal?

From Benn Jordan vids i get these:
a short snippet of broadband noise, a sine sweep, a clip of 2 or 3 runs/chords in very different keys.
I usually use a click.impulse and a few open 5th chords (hi/mid/low), i also play a stereo mix fully wet with adjusted decay, so it doesn't get muddy from decay length.

Any abrupt sounds into a microphone. I mean, they use the popping of a balloon to make convolution reverbs for a reason.

I used this modded blackfly box, and I think it shows off the decay of the Meris really well. While the Merc7 does a lot of unnatural reverb sounds, the base reverb sound is really convincing and among the best I've heard.
