Telecasters are truly the best instruments for skramz, tho   :picard:

And if you really wanna refract your subconscious, might I suggest you

I don't know about the best guitar for skramz, but I personally only use single coils and hate the sound of humbuckers. The tele has very nice single coil sound. Very different from the Jag and Jazzmasters. Jazzmasters definitely won't work for skramz or twinkle emo or jazzy math rock. Jaguar's more mellow sound suit those genres way more imo. Jazzmaster's more bell like sounds, like Rickenbackerss, are perfect for noise, but not just fuzz, also seering cut throughing bell like highs and upper mids. Bright, shimmery, turning the guitar into singing vocals coming out those strings.

The single coils on Tele's actually lend very well to a much more spiritual sound. I kinda wish the tele was an offset design. Eeer, whatever, I'm buying a G&L Doheny and Rickenbacker 330/12. YOLO.

Mustang's sound is so bad.

We won't know if the sound is bad until we've evolved to hear more frequencies.

i thought a couple of the Pawn Shop/Alternate Universe Teles were/are pretty neat. the Jazz Tele was inspired, and the current El Magico thinline with gold-foils makes my heart hurt. but i don't like them so much that i'd pay north of $2200 for them

jirodreamsofdank wrote:Fender's doing fine IMO - I don't like pau ferro on vintage-looking guitars but that's my hangup, the Custom Shop relics often look cheesy (and I don't mind relics when they're subtle... or cheap) but I'll never be able to afford one anyway, they reintroduced CuNiFe wide ranges after 40 years, most of the short run things are misses but they still produce all the basics.
I agree that overall, Fender is doing a great job. I don't mind pau ferro, but I would like to see a wider range of finishes. And I would really like to see a return to vintage sunbursts, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards. As for relicing, I can live without it. Nobody beats up my guitars but me.

People buy Fenders and Gibsons because they want the classic guitars they know and love, or because they want minor variations or engineering improvements on the classic guitars they know and love. That gives both companies the same problem - if they change, purists get mad and say "Look how much they changed that iconic guitar I love!" If they don't change, other 'people get mad and say "They never do anything new!" I think Fender does a good job of both, however, by releasing some freaky new lines like the Parallel Universe guitars, or a while back the Pawn Shop series, while maintaining their line of classics.

Fender has the advantage of having had a number of designs that are objectively great but died in the marketplace--the Starcaster, the Lead series, the Coronado, Duo Sonics--that they can revive. both Fender and Gibson have eaten it when trying to do stuff outside their particular box, but Gibson's attempts have been pretty painful. the last "innovative" guitars they did which i find palatable were the L5S and L6S.

It seems we're getting the first new Hammond synth in decades.

I'm wondering if it has two separate sound engines---poly (VA/FPGA or wave morphing?) on the left and an FM mono (pictured) on the right. I suggest that, because it's kind of odd to imagine a full-size keyboard for an FM mono in 2021.

well, Chrissie Hynde plays one. so does Rachel out of Slowdive. however, i had no idea Joe Strummer and Roy Buchanan were female.

Number Girl proved 25 years ago the optimal guitar sound is one Tele plus one JM, and the girl has the JM — so there you go
