And I wants YOUR help!
Ok, after much’a labouring I’ve got a bit of a budget and gah! Im not gonna get more effects pedals for the time being…. so I’ve thought I’d invest in my home recording set up. As I know many (if not ALL) of you, have home recording rigs, I’d appreciate your suggestions VEWY VEWY MUCH concerning exactly WHAT goodies I shall be shelling out my hard earned cash for. So, below I’ll list what I need, and what I’ve thought I should get.
My budget is around 600-700 euros (some $1000) but I’ll have to buy most of the stuff in Europe where yup, stuff is usually more expensive.
I NEEDS
SOME MONITORS: I wanna spend around 300 € on these. Yamaha, M-Audio? I’ve got NO idea what to go for.
A MIC FOR ACOUSTIC AND VOCALS: I’m looking at the Oktava range, they’re the ones that make the EH mikes. I’m REALLY liking the look of their MK 101 Condenser. http://oktava-online.com/mk101.htm I’d also need a pop filter, mic stand… the lot
A PERCUSSION TRIGGER: TO bash out on Ezdrummer. I’ pretty much sold on the Alesis Control Pad. http://alesis.com/controlpad The M Audio Trigger Finger and Akai MPD 16 are also in my to want list, tho you have to play these “fingerstyle”. I’m a pretty accomplished percussionist if I do say so meeself (Just don’t ask my feet to do anything a 100th as good as what I can do with the hands, sigh!) but I don’t know whether I’ll, prefer bashing our rhythms with sticks or fingers…. Any thoughts on this???
A GOOD QUALITY PRE AND A/D USB INTERFACE. I’m recording thru an M-Audio Blackbox, and I’m quite happy with it, but I think a good mike deserves a more dedicated interface… and one which will allow me to split my guitar signal in two with my VHT Valvulator to feed a clean signal into my DAW for…. You guessed it!!!!
A GOOD RE-AMP box! Radial or the like…
These last two can wait, but the Mic, Monitors and perc-trigger are what I’m really achin’ for right now.
CAN YOU HELP YOUR FAVOURITE SPANIARD!!! (C’mon, I know I’m the ONLY Spaniard you know…. Apart from Iñigo Montoya, dat is!)

On the Shure, well, I know I can get an sm57/58 pretty easy, and my bass (Mostly missing from musicla life since he become a FATHER!) player has one I can borrow, so I want something different and more airy.

I'm not sure on the Yamaha studio monitor model. Basically, decide by price range. There is a high definition studio in town and all of their monitors are new small Yamahas and they satisfy the audiophiles there so I'm sure they are a win!
I have a pair of Tapco S-5 (I think) and they are ok, their customer service just sucks!
This is a handy piece of gear that you might could get on the cheap!

You need the Alesis io 26 (or the io 14 if you don't need all those ins and outs).
It is by far the best solution out there. Inserts on every channel? They're genius!
Then get the Røde NT1-A. Of course you can go with an sm58, but this thing is pro i says. Not too expensive either. Lots of studios uses them, we have tons of them at school too. Can't go record anything without them.
That's about as far as my expertise go. Oh, and headphones maybe. Me and everyone else I know uses AKG's. I have heard, and maybe agree, that they aren't that good on bass response. Never seen proof and it has never messed up anything I've made when it's been played on normal speakers.

I don't know man, it depends on how "serious" you are wanting to go with it and how much you want to be able to do yourself! Tracking is easy enough...just rememberYOU GET MORE MILEAGE OUT OF GOOD SOUNDING INSTRUMENTS ON THE FRONT END THAN WITH SHITY TONES AND HIGH END PRE AMPS AND MICS!!!! I learned this the hard way......
Also, if you plan on doing any kind of serious mixing, you will need to invest 80% of your budget on monitors and treatment for your listening environment...If you plan on just tracking at your house and going to a real studio to mix, thats one thing. If you plan on doing legit mixes, you will need to have the best monitors you can have....its like painting a picture when you need glasses but won't buy any....how well are you gonna be able to paint when you can't even see what you are doing very well...the same holds true for production.
