1) Purge More. Currently trying to lighten up what I own. Usually this is either because I am trying to fund a new purchase or annoyed with pedals and ideas not working out. Neither are true right now. And I don't feel depressed, at least not more than my usual fuck everything attitude.

Achieved. Ending the year with less than I started.

2) Put a board together. Various pedals strung out over the carpet has never been satisfying. Haven't had a proper board together for about 5 years. Blooper incoming and will make some decisions after that. Extras never work out, as they taunt me from the shelf and drawer. Just really focused on my basics with some extras to keep my satisfied. Playing loud with another person has shown me what is important and what isn't.

Failed. Lack of shows means less push to finalize a portable setup. Close though. In the midst of 3 opposite ideas. Waiting for something to decide if it stays and I eliminate more from my setup.

3) Electronic Audio Experiments Hypersleep. Analog BBD reverb. Might pass after hearing more clips but it the only pedal I am interested in right now. But other than that my needs and wants are well met. Hard to say what my pique my interest later on during the year. I would like to get to the point that when I buy my next pedal it is a real big fucking deal.

Achieved. Almost skipped out but followed through with my initial interest. Not a keeper for me though.

4) No more modules. My case is full of Make Noise and I just sold the last remaining module. I like working within their framework since it was designed to work together. I would only buy more MN at this point. Having a second modular case is just opening myself up to feed the gear addiction without actually focusing on making sounds and music. Still feel like I have plenty to learn with what I have.

Achieved. Next year, maybe not.

5) Finally buy a decent record player. If there was ever one thing I could collect and not feel shameful for it has been music. My vinyl library is smallish and I limit my purchases on purpose. I often think that I shouldn't buy more records if I don't have a decent player, and I shouldn't buy a better player if I am not buying many records. No, I can't win.

Achieved. Got a U-Turn Orbit Plus.

6) Different 2nd amp. Never loved my Fender Twin and have it listed locally. Love my old Marshall JMP MkII. So when the Twin finally sells I will probably look for a 2nd amp of some type. Would explore some of those power amp pedals, maybe to use with a preamp like the Model Fet, at least it make a decent backup for a gig. Add a cab sim and that is a sort of dedicated multi purpose setup. Otherwise maybe a low wattage tube combo thing with bonus points for having a speaker out, tremolo, and a nice reverb. Would consider putting together a DIY kit of some sort. Already considered some rack amp gear and it isn't quite what I would want.

Achieved. Forgot this was a goal. Sold the Twin. Bought an old Traynor YBA-1 from jonnyangle. Had my tech tweak it out. Bought a 2nd cab, replaced all the speakers. Standing between two blasting half stacks is quite an experience.

7) Video camera. Probably won't happen, but I am slightly interested in doing some proper videos. Maybe modular performance jams. Maybe actual videos to accompany music from myself or the band. Dunno.

Failed. But it was only a consideration. My computer probably can't handle editing video anyway. Maybe next year.

Honestly I feed very bad for the non Sephora Rouge young bucks trying to buy their own but it just opened the door for some enterprising smooth motherfucker to start cloning them.

However I do quite enjoy it as a bass distortion even for non-noise stuff. That three band EQ is a real gem.

I do not endorse the “gain knob mod” but who am I to stand in the way of “progress”....

Still love it. Not the most outside or crazy fuzz, but definitely not a milquetoast, either. Though it does underfuzz and other moderately fuzzy and dirty things really well. Some people find them a bit shrill, and I guess that’s fair at some settings, but fuzz, y’know?

yeah if you want more gain just boost it. There probably will be some clones unless the digitech keeps being worthless but i see them rising too.

As for my gear goalz, I'm not really sure. I'm still happy with what I have, and sometimes wonder if I even need it all. New album is taking shape nicely, and I feel like I am able to do everything I want to with just a few of the pedals I have. Sorry, Sharky. Maybe you could get me to gas for something? What would you like to see me own?

My interest is peaked by some of the stuff Drod has been talking about building though, small solid state amps in particular. Would still like to try a EHX 16 second delay or some vaiant thereof as well.

Oh, and there's a few people I've been talking about collaborating with musically, hope to get some more projects going next year.

I would like to see you collaborate more. That sounds great. Drod is always cooking up cool stuff. I’m really not an “amp guy” but would love another small solid state thing. These days my lunchbox amp gets the most use.

I would like to see you get more into software and make some oscillating fuzz meets footwork/juke/night-core choons.

If you are considering a delay, I think you would get a lot of mileage out of a time factor. I scored one this year for $180. No regrets. Only get it if you can get it that cheap.

Hello, Sharky, and thank you for the reply. A good buddy of mine have gotten into modular over the past couple of years, and we've been talking about doing noise rock with breakbeats living up to the Big Beat Manifesto. So that collab might happen this spring.

I'm not an amp guy either. Fun fact: a lot of the iRerror stuff is recorded with my small Fender Mini Deluxe battery amp. Love that thing. So small solid state amp is intriguing to me too.

Not sure I want to get into software. I do use Ableton, but since I work on my computer all the time, I like music being something I do out there in the real world with my mind as the interface or whatever bullshit.

Hm. The Boss DD-200 has been on my mind, the Time Factor is probably a good alternative. But then I'd have to deal with menus and modes and all the stuff that makes me go back to the AD-9 every time I test fancy delays. But we shall see. Appreciate your idea regardless.

Well, I did finally get around to selling one of my SGVs, realizing that I hadn't picked it up in a year and a half. Also sold the Possessed. Did get a sampler, which is fun. Also got the Pest Tattern. Still looking at some fancy delays and reverbs and stuff sometimes. No real collabs, because 2020.
