Don't expect the keyboard or pitch bender to be very playable (still cool), but it packs a lot of functionality into a small set of straightforward controls, which makes it a lot of fun to explore. None of the engines are very deep, but you get a handful of different engines. So you never feel overwhelmed, but there's a huge array of sounds available. The arpeggiator is fantastic. It needs some effects, but I can't imagine that lack of built-in effects is a big problem for people on an effects pedal forum. Build quality is a step up from a Volca, but it's still plastic, so don't drop it.

It is, however, not "fixed architecture". It's a digital modular. Anything can be routed to anything up in that mod matrix. If the thing you want isn't marked there, you just hold the button and twist the knob of the thing you want to re-patch. Having to cycle through the mod matrix with that one knob is the worst bit, but it's not that bad.
AH shit it's got a mod matrix. Thanks for the update though!

first patch with the Iridium -

it's a slowly moving wavetable, piano sample with granular movement and a sawtooth wave. drums by Ableton programming shizz.

it took about 15 minutes to bang that patch together, thing is a simple butts fun depth blunger.

I just took receipt of the Roland TR6S. This fixed architecture drum machine isn't shitty enough for the shitty drum machines thread so I'm bragging on it here.

Some early thoughts:

Loading samples is easy.

The faders are rad.

The Step Loop function to stutter or arpeggiate beats is rad.

I like the colorful lights.

The interesting pattern chaining concept of "Variations" is rad.

It sounds pretty good and has a ton of sounds built in, both x0x drum boxes and lots of other weird percussion stuff.

The sounds can be edited an awful lot but there is menu diving to achieve this (I don't care about the menus but I know some people reject all menus).

It's a bit fiddly to get rid of or overwrite the factory pre-sets, which are very "whiz bang" and I mostly hate them.

It is rad that the factory kits end on 68 so the user's first kit is 69. Nice.

To conclude, the TR6S is simple enough to fuck around with for fun boom bap slaps but deep enough to program really interesting stuff atmo.
