Shitty drum machines are the only ones I can deal with. I borrowed a friend's Digitakt and I just could not get over the first hump of the learning curve. I'd rather beatbox into a looper. I have a Yamaha PS-6100 with two slots for custom rhythms and I think that's good enough for me.
Does the Zoom MS70cdr maintain a stereo image? I just have the MS50g (mono in only) but it's been good for dirtying up the 6100, with the Mono Synth, Ring Mod, and BendCho effects.

And yes, bit crushers on drum machines are rad AF. Best case use of the Ottobit Jr for me in the past. Geiger Counter Pro though, hmmm. Only played Jwars on guitar once and thought it was pretty rad.

DPM-48 sounds suprisingly similar to a 707 imo, cowbell and Toms especially. Hats are tighter. Every time I listen to "Weirs" by Vibert/Simmons it makes me miss my 707 a little.

Whoa, that record looks awesome.
I sold my 707 to make rent a few years ago (and my 606, which is one I do miss - though I have a basket case to repair so I'll be okay), so I'm not in the position to A/B the two but they certainly sit in the same neighborhood. I want to say the DPM-48 snare is trashier, and the 707 kick is deeper. Lack of the accent function (not to mention MIDI) on the DPM-48 really sucks the wind out of its sails in a head to head comparison.
Another PCM dinosaur to throw into this particular pit is the (SIEL) Suzuki RPM-40. It is NOT programmable, but you CAN trigger the sounds via MIDI so it'll operate as a sound module with cheesy beats on tap. Everything is mixed down to a single mono output. Over all, the drum sounds are rawer than the 707 and the brass/claps/cowbell sit around the Casio benchmark. A good pairing for stomp boxes.
