any love for newest Deftones?
I'm really getting into Ohms, enjoying it very much as an album, could very well lather, rinse, repeat...
Sure, Deftones,
for a long time I thought I understood how Deftones might be rad, just not really for me...
they didn't really grab me until Koi No Yokan which was on heavy rotation in my car
After that Gore was still cool but a bit meh in comparison
Now Ohms...
Oh my! what a bunch of sweet lord fuck yeah
maybe I'm just a sucker for Terry Date producing

Yes!
I was very pleasantly surprised how rad this album is, having gotten into the band at their peak circa White Pony.
Definitely my favourite of theirs since the Self Titled or Saturday Night Wrist

This is good news
(to me, lol - I was out da loop)
I wonder if this national dumpster fire will be out when they're supposed to come around next August

Re: any love for newest Deftones?
Their last album that really caught me was the S/T, and some songs from SNW, then I lost interest, I'm going to give this one a try in the next days.
They remain one of the bands whose live performances got better and better through the years. First time I saw them I was totally in love with their albums but the show kinda sucked, the next time was better, but the last time (actually 7 years ago or so) they totally ripped the place. Killer show.

Re: any love for newest Deftones?
yeah, it took me 2-3 listens to dig the whole thing, too.
1- this is OK, but I'll probably stick to KNY or try to get into the older stuff
2- really love the production, some of those songs are good, pretty pretty good
3 -yeah, this is right up there, will play again

I was also never the world's biggest Deftones fan. So maybe it's just not for me
I will probably try again though

Re: any love for newest Deftones?
I used to love the deftones when I was a younger person. The first 3-4 albums are total bangers. That being said, I've only jammed half of it then never really got around to listening to the rest of it. I will put it on today at work. I did think that the vocals were a little high in the mix and a lot of times that kind of turns me off. Maybe it was just the car stereo that made them sound that way
Also the artwork on this album is sick!

I, uh, think you should listen to White Pony as soon as possible.ProCarsteNation wrote:yeah, it took me 2-3 listens to dig the whole thing, too.

Re: any love for newest Deftones?
will do.
when it came out
I kind shunned it
but maybe this time around
I did read that White Pony, Diamond Eyes and Ohms make a trilogy of sorts,
that could be a good sign
But I tried Around The Fur the other day
and while I could partly dig it
it also reminded me why I couldn't get into Deftones earlier
So maybe I just like them the better the more strings their guitars get?

Re: any love for newest Deftones?
I bought Around the Fur when it came it, because My Own Summer was like the raddest thing I'd heard. But I never really listened to it much. I didn't dislike it, but it didn't grab me. And that's kinda how I've felt about everything they've released. So I don't think I actually dig them at all - I just really like one song they've done. I got through the first four songs of this new album before it drove me nuts and I had to turn it off.

Yeah, I dig it. Probably the album I've liked the most since self titled. Everything after s/t has been decent without really being all that exciting. But I've listened to this a few times and it gets better each time. It has a cold, overly-digitised tone to it, which I think meshes quite well with the synth stuff that is going on.
Abe is a super underrated drummer too. He's just got a really great punchy sound. On record and live, he always sounds great. So tight, a lot of flair without being OTT.
I've seen them live three times, musically they are rock solid, but Chino always sounds atrocious.

I have seen Chino be great live twice and real bad once. When he's on it's phenomenal but when he's not it's not great.More_Divebombs wrote:Yeah, I dig it. Liking this record a lot.
