Re: Pedal for drum machine?
Thank you for all your thoughts.
I originally began thinking "filter" because I had a little success running drum machines through a Jomox M-Resonator. That box is too chaos, though, a slight slip of a knob and you're in death-squeal realms. I do enjoy noise and noise music and harsh belch walls and etc. but the project I'm working on now has a bit of a cleaner sound so I'm looking for something to enliven rather than mutilate.
That Boss GL-100 rack looks sexy.
Analog Heat is a dream machine but too expensive to run a 125$ drum machine through... probably.
I don't have any Rats but I have not discounted the idea of using two Rats or two Boneshakers or Operation Overlord. The Rat cabling solution seems unusual but I'll peek at the specs.
I don't have a lot of pedals on hand or DIY stuff on hand. I mostly have a lot of drum machines, fellows, and I'm not afraid to use them.
If you have a drum machine that's shitty and know how to use it as a shitty drum machine then you have a double negative good drum machine.

Re: Pedal for drum machine?
Shitty drum machines are the best dude. No debates about it.
For not noise perhaps just some overdrive and a touch of reverb will suffice?

I am currently using the shittiest of all drum machines, the Maestro Rhythm Jester which isn't really a drum machine just those silly beats that come with an old organ. I'm running it through a compressor and reverb just to pump it up and make it sound interesting.

Is this begging for a thread of its own?Confuzzled wrote:the shittiest of all drum machines
I am betting that a shittier drum machine than one badged with Maestro can be uncovered.
I was going to offer up the Mattel Synsonics, but it is somewhat programmable so it may be far from the "shittiest".

Re: Pedal for drum machine?
I would welcome a shitty drum machines thread. The shittiest drum machine I ever shit with was the Zoom RhythmTrak 234. The best part of that drum machine is that it semi-died and would produce nothing but bizarre Autechre-clicks. Then it died for real and I placed it ceremoniously in the trash can. Farewell, old friend!
As for the original post, I decided to go with a Kaoss Pad 3 (which I did have lying around... just need some lengthier RCA --> 1/4" cabling). The gain in the KP3 is great esp. if you use the microphone in (which I'm not for this purpose). The microphone in on the KP3 is an ultra-secret weapon.

Re: Pedal for drum machine?
Also I think the Casio SK-5 drum machine is probably the shittiest drum machine. That's cheating, but it doesn't even have the ability to accurately set the tempo. You just gotta hang loose with that one
But it is used for the beat in this song

EDIT: Although I am actually not 100% sure of this now. I think so but I can't really remember

As soon as keyboards are included as shitty rhythm sources the floodgates are gonna open...fcknoise wrote:Casio SK-5
I was thinking of strafing the "Show us your drumset" thread with a parade of drum machines, but a dedicated thread would be better. That said, I'm not starting it. I'll wind up dropping poorly timed ordnance and kill the future of the thread with stuff like this:

Re: Pedal for drum machine?
It sounds like absolute shit, but I don't know if that is the sound source, or the fact that it's pushing a 2 inch speaker with two AA batteries. I need to punch a 1/4" jack into it for sampling, then I'll probably be happy seeing it find a new home. I can't punch the jack in the shell though, as that's made from cardboard.Dandolin wrote:

Re: Pedal for drum machine?
I was gonna start the thread but why not just keep this one going. Pedals for drum machines is a prime shitty drum machine topic, as the shittier they are the more necessary fx are

Maybe just a hole large enough to pass the wire and the jack completely external? low rent seems appropriatecrochambeau wrote:It sounds like absolute shit, but I don't know if that is the sound source, or the fact that it's pushing a 2 inch speaker with two AA batteries. Re: Pedal for drum machine?
I would argue that this is the opposite of shitty, but I used to rock the Acetone, which was probably a copy of the Rhythm Jester anyway, for years until some collector convinced me to part ways with it. I do miss it, especially for the color choices and the push buttons, which seem totally useless today but feel so fucking great to play.Confuzzled wrote:I am currently using the shittiest of all drum machines, the Maestro Rhythm Jester which isn't really a drum machine just those silly beats that come with an old organ. Shitty is a relative term, anyway, as the era of the ultra-cheap drum machine has really come to pass, as mass production of those types of units have significantly slowed down past the late 90's/early 00's. But somehow the Boss DR-3 & Alesis SR-16 are still in production, so what do I even know
But if you want truly shitty, the ubiquitous Casio drum sounds are the best place to start (none more shitty) :surprise:
Good morning!

I am just glad that the casio sample pack was included in the massive every-synth-ever sample pack me and CBS split
