i don't believe anyone mentioned Yamaha solid-state amps. i haven't played one, but they're supposed to be quite good.

of all people, B.B. King used a L Series Gibson amp in the 1970s.

Somebody did at some point. I'm interested in the G series, but the only ones I've found have been a little too rough. That was a few years back.

I can absolutely vouch for the Yamaha G-100s - I've got one and it rules. Twin-ish, but a bit warmer, imo, and the parametric eq on the second channel on mine is outstanding. It's a beast, as you'd expect, but mine is on casters and has a cover - it was probably some Poconos jazzer's in a former life, lol. I wish I used it more, but actually, it's going to be leaving in a purge. Too bad I'm not closer to you....

Yamaha amps are great. I have a G100212ii and a JX-20. Both sound amazing, but you're right in that lots of them are beat (my G100 is) and getting harder to find.

Oof. Know anyone in Philly? https://reverb.com/item/35209527-yamaha ... own-coffee

I got to play whatever the G-series 4x12 was, and it was awesome. Price was really good but the reverb was busted. That, and the complete lack of a need for a 4x12 in my life.

yeah - not sure there'll ever be a need for even a 212 in my life anymore :idk:

hope you find the right one for you

Hopefully in the next couple years I'll have a house of my own again, big enough to justify running two 212s regardless of whether gigging happens or not. But until then... no.

Thanks!

If anyone continues to be even vaguely interested, my current plan is to either

a) sell the Ampeg and Katana 50, get two Katana 100s and just program them the way I want them; or
b) sell the Ampeg and get another Katana 50 and program it the way I want it.

This has the advantage of cheapness, low weight, flexibility, and visual symmetry. It has the disadvantage of not being a very exciting midlife crisis purchase.

Who knows what'll really happen, though...
