I <3 Hazarai. Does everything, and more! Plus the looper...helped me SO much as a bandmate. Loop a melody, work out fitting parts to it. And to loop for hours on end..so much fun.
But yeah, the delay! What I like most about the delay is the decay knob. Can be a quick shut-up, a bunch of same-volumed repeats, or swells! :p

Moog 104z is mighty nice in the delay department. And like devnulljp said, Echoplex is super tatsy.

IMO there is no best delay pedal.

It's a matter of taste.

But my favorite delay is the Space City Echo.

Haven't tried too many delays, but I love my SMMH. Other than that, I really dug my Digitech PDS-1002.

I've got a big box DMM, Superdelay, M9, Malekko E300d. They're all good for different reasons. But I think I like the DMM best for tonez, and the SD for features.

I've always wanted to try a Skrecho and Timefactor. Then there's the topic for the "other forums" current circle jerk... the Strymon El Capistan. I was all :whateva: , but then I listened to the clips on the Strymon website and now I'm like "my goodness" :omg: . I don't even think I was this pumped to try the Superdelay. Where else are you going to get a delay pedal that sounds like a tape machine that's about to break. Plus it has stereo outs, which I wish my SD has.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from this site.

I love my skreddy echo for the tape sound and the warble ( ). The digilog would definetely be a close second for a more natural delay tone. Also, the memory boy for a delay on the cheaper side.

I am a total delay whore so I've got my eyes on the new strymon el capistan and the superdelay next...

Haha yeah! What the hell hey! *shakes fists* (just kidding!)

I've got a DM-2 and a Super Delay and I love them both, I think they're perfect examples of a sweet and simple analog delay and a powerful digital delay.

I think the good Dr. Morton nailed it though, there's no best, just lots of awesome ones and you need to kind of focus on what sounds you're hoping for as there's so much ground to cover.

That thing sounds amazing. I want one so bad, but that's a lot of money for me to shell out on an effect I'm not very good with. Still sounds incredible. Too many knobs & switches for me anyway :wha?:

I've got my eye on a Disaster Transport. Missed BOTH of the PGS deals, didn't have the funds when I needed em. Hopefully they do another one of those coupon runs.

the el capistan sounds incredible. Will most definitely be my next delay pedal. It just sounds incredible. Their demos just showed everyone what they wanted to hear...

All around the skrecho, the loop and the limiter are increadibly useful. E600d for straight up TOAN.
Honorable mention for the DMM.

My first post here on my favorite topic!

I can't think of a delay that I haven't liked, even if it was a cheap old Rocktek. They all make cool and weird sounds.

Some of my favorites -

Arion SAD-1 - I really love this for solid analog delay, semi-controllable oscillation, and bang for the buck.
EHX DMM - great modulated delay.
Ibanez DE7 - decent tone and oscillation king. The recessed knobs are a great idea. I'm surprised I don't see that on more pedals.
Ibanez EM5 - echomachine - great tone in a digital pedal. simple and small.
Ibanez AD202 - rack unit - the cream of modulated delay plus nine knobs to tweak. It would be nice if had more than 300ms.
Ibanez UE405 - another rack unit with the same circuits as the "8" series for compression, stereo chorus, para EQ, and analog delay - so an AD80 in a rack. Very sweet.

Wow - I didn't realize how much I like Ibanez delays until making this list.

I'm one of the geeks that's waiting on the first shipment of El Capistans. I don't really care for the name, but the sounds could be very cool.

The strymon is a play on capstan, though I don't think many people get the pun

I have a VMSD, Subdecay Echo Box and DMM, as well as a Timebender.
The Echobox is my DMM when i want a small set up, whilst the VMSD is my favourite for being an all rounder. The Timebender is great as well, but I've yet to find a use for it.

I will admit I've never tried a DT, but I've never seen/heard clips of it doing what the El Capistan can do. I'm not really referring to a delay with low pass filter and a crazy amount of modulation (preferably vibrato) to recreate this effect. Modulation, while awesome, is predictable. Even at extreme levels you can still pick out the wave shape of the effect. Some of the clips demonstrating this on the Strymon site sound like actual flutters and imperfections which are random and unpredictable. Even at its most extreme settings the pedal sounds completely usable, which is more than most can claim. I don't think I've even heard of another pedal recreating the sound of a moveable playback head moving across tape when you adjust the speed, like it would on an Echoplex. Oh, and it has a "Trails" setting. I don't know of many boutique delays that offer that. Everyone's too worried about true-bypass to even consider it.

Ok, enough with the .

I totally agree. Delay is by far my favorite effect... closely followed by fuzz :ilf: . I think there should be an I Love Delay forum somewhere out in the great world wide interwebz. I know there's enough delay junkies on here to make it a reality. We could even come up with a cool name for it like......

.........

...
.......ok I got nothing right now, but we'll think of something.
