Oh I did check out Boss reverb demos, and a bunch more that I didn't mention in the long post like Matthew Effects Astronomer/Cosmonaut, Foxgear Rainbow, EQD Transmisser and the Empress Reverb, but except for the Empress none of these piqued my interest as much as the Strymon Volante (and later the Zoia), and I felt like the Empress Reverb sounds were represented well enough in the Zoia.

What ultimately appealed most to me about the Zoia as opposed to the Strymon Volante/Empress Reverb is that, since all these options are digital anyway, it's a multifunctional €500+ pedal instead of a €400/500 pedal with only a few uses (reverb, delay, or both at the same time). From demos I gathered that Zoia has good-to-great sounding reverbs and delays, that you can tweak further because of it's modular nature, and also has very decent sounding phasers, flangers, etc., all sounds that I can use within this band, but probably not on more than one song, and this could theoretically save me from having to assemble a second large pedalboard counting over a dozen pedals that on average cost €200/300 or something each (as will the board itself and a power solution) while only getting used for 1 or 2 songs each.

I don't even like menu diving, but that thing is the only reverb I'll ever have GAS for (except maybe the Meris/Chase Bliss CXM 1978 that will probably best all of these in the Expensive category, and, hence, my pocquettbook).

I already said this too many times in other threads and don't want to bore y'all to death, but to me that's the best and most practical reverb ever. The patches are amazing, the personalizable footswitches are super useful and the internal assignable LFO lets you go from subtle motion or the weirdest reverb movements/steps/randomness/whatever, it's really unique. Another relevant fact is that you don't need any menu dive to tweak it if you don't want to - and even if you want to, it is still just 1 page away, so not deep at all.

I just traded for a Context 2 and I'm pretty happy with it. The Plate setting with makes for a nice regular reverb and the grain with some modulation gets fun and weird. The high and low controls are helpful and I'm not sure how the dynamics thing works but I'm getting some intense sounds with it. Using the second footswitch to go between a preset and wysiwyg on the knobs is a good trick.

I just bought a Blackhole pedal and I like it quite a bit. It's got 6 knobs and 5 of them do double duty via a shift key, so it can do quite a bit.

Can I ask the question about why the blackhole would be a preferable option to the space or an H9? I haven't looked into it that much but it was the first question to pop in my head when I saw it

every day i am haunted by different reverb options.

in the last 6 or so months i have bought an RV500, Empress Reverb, Flint, Context 2, Slo, Dark World.
still have the flint and context but sold everything else.
i like the flint as an always on but i think a bit less than my RRR. context is cool but i think i need to spend more time with it.
i think what i need is just a plate reverb and a reverse reverb. which i was already getting from my zoom multistomp/rrr combo i ran for years. love the trem on the flint so maybe i will go with that and the zoom on the board.
i think maybe i spent a whole bunch of money and time on a somewhat fruitless pursuit? but now i know what i like? maybe i dont? and never knew what i wanted? tried a bunch of cool pedals i guess and bought used and resold at same prices so am not down any $ apart from shipping? maybe everything is meaningless. maybe i will buy an atmosphere.

well when you say menu diving with apps then i am reminded why I really would not gel with the H9

Which one provided reverse? And you preferred that reverse to the Empress? Because I thought the Empress reverse was pretty good and would be interested and trying other reverses.

That is the entire reason I sold the H9 and all Source Audio pedals: Having to unlock features via computer is a PITA.

If you don't need stereo, hard to go wrong with the Atmosphere. Probably the best user interface of any digital pedal I know. And sounds great, and the LFO is awesome.

i think what i need is just a plate reverb and a reverse reverb. which i was already getting from my zoom multistomp/rrr combo i ran for years. love the trem on the flint so maybe i will go with that and the zoom on the board.

You’ve gone through some big ones, rv-500 and the empress. Couldn’t they do what you wanted? I’m thinking that many people feel bad when they don’t use a pedal enough, but oven though I keep my space like untouched most of the time I never get that anxiety. Occasionally I want to use the niche weird verbs or the really nice spring setting for a bit and then I always have it. It has killed all gas for all other reverb essentially

yeah, plus I'm finding I like reverb more for "lofi atmosphere" than for whatever celestial perfection a lot of other people seem to desire (present company excepted), and the Atmosphere seems to deliver on that promise...+1,000 for the possibility of modulated strangeitude. probs have to wait until a trade arises, tho bc i lack the discipline to sell-then-buy :facepalm:

I have owned a H3000, Eclipse and Pitchfactor and did sound reinforcement for a living for 15 years or so, and I'm not afraid of screens/menus/etc.

For pedals that I may have to use live (obviously not right now), I do tend to prefer knobs and switches only. I tend to not even bother with presets, but just reach down and set things where I like.

I was actually going to buy a Boss RV6 when the Blackhole pedal came out. I liked the algo in the eclipse and I like their products generally, so I bought that instead. So far, I like it.
