envelope stereo panning tremolo

Post by solewheelin »

Though it was noisy with some setups, I miss having a Line 6 tap tremolo. Mostly because of the intensity that it was capable of in stereo but also because of its size. I have plans for my board that involve stereo panning and mostly envelope type effects (including envelope stereo panning). Just added an Aqueduct that I scored here which is a great addition to the beginning of the chain. Thanks echorec. :joy:
There are a few that I know of that can envelope the speed of the tremolo. My L6 MM4 does it but it's too big.
The L6 Tap Tremolo which only ramps from fast to slow where as the Pigtronix tremvelope which can go in both directions. Love that. Pete thorn made this sound mint. Unfortunately the tremvelope has no stereo in which is an option i would definitely like to have.

tl;dr-
Looking for Smallish trem with envelope speed and stereo ins/outs or any wild effect that involves things being enveloped because I want to feel more things.
Any recommendations from you guys/girls?

There's no stereo in (although there might be on the GT-1000 which has similar level of control) - the best option I've found for this is the Boss GT-001/100 - both envelope and other control schemes are available (as the envelopes and automation and expression can be applied on a per-patch basis).

I believe the GT-1 might do this as well as it's a GT-001 in a footpedal chassis by and large.

The Boss MD500.

MD200 also has stereo in/outs but not sure if there's the envelope control of the 500s.

Alesis Ampliton is what you're looking for. Love mine. Take a peek at the manual, dual trem/pan effects in series, with separate envelope "triggered" settings for both. So much functionality, you can assign tap tempo to one or both effects, lots of "pattern"/rhythmic waveshapes, random auto pan setting, both effects can get into ring mod territory (barely), and goes incredibly slow at its slowest (something like 20sec from my recollection). Stereo, but sums to mono before it goes through, just fyi. Suuuper interesting and criminally underrated

Thanks. I'm thinking of going for an Ampliton but i want to read more about it. Never tried the Alesis modfx series.
How does the trigger mode on the ampliton work? Is that like a envelope? I need to know everything this one is capable of. I'll read the manual. Saw one for 99 on ebay. hm
Boss 500 series interface i just cannot get on with for some reason. Too much going on.
Super Pulsar was cool when i tried one. ill check that manual as well.
Pretty excited to max out on this idea.

yeah, it's tough to find both the envelope response and the stereo panning in one device that is relatively compact.
Sonuus Voluum does the envelope control and shit tonnes more, but it's yuge and no stereo.

Gig/FX Chopper and Pro-Chop do the panning and give you integrated foot pedal control over rate, but no envelope, and, again, large.

I wonder of the Source Audio One Series trem will do what you want?
...and to answer my own question - no envelope control, though you can set it up for expression pedal or hot hand control....

If there's a stereo panner with an expression pedal input, you could try a Copilot Autodialer with it to get envelope control.... :snax:

Stereo Pulsar seems to rule tho....

I had the regular EHX pulsar and it has the most stupid range knob of all time. It is very slow up until 8:50 o clock, and then usable between 8:50 and 9:10 and then audio rate speeds above that. While that sometimes feels like "oh yeah that is awesome" it looses its charm in like a day and all I wanted was a tremolo pedal. I dont know if they fixed that on the stereo super pulsar tho.

I have the berhinger clone of the PN-2 and it pans when I want it to pan. It sounds pretty cool sometimes. Two waves, triangle and square. Obviously doesn't to the envelope thing and it also probably adds some noise, so i dont think it is what you are looking for

C4? May be a little overkill if it works, but it could do other things, too.

Try starting around p25 or so in the manual.

Yes, "Triggered" is Alesis' term for the envelope setting on each effect. Both effects' rate/depth can be independently set, eg trem can be set to tempo sync and follow the bpm, and pan not set to tempo sync so you could "play" the pan's rate knob (with the trem set to tempo sync, its rate knob would only select a rate that's 0.25x/0.5x/1x/2x/4x the tapped in bpm). Heavy MBV wonder 2 vibes.

In Triggered mode, the reset mod button automatically triggers the envelope for one/both effects, regardless of the audio level coming in. In Pattern mode, the reset mod button selects different rhythmic waveshapes. This is by far the most mysterious aspect of this pedal, I've never been able to find any info on how many different options there are or how they're shaped. There's a lot, a couple dozen at least, I get lost trying to cycle through them all. I usually just keep going until I find one that works in context. All other modes, reset mod button just resets the waveshape from the beginning of its phase.

The ModFX are super odd. Only musician I know of that uses one is Dave Portner, it was on his board for the Slasher Flicks live shows. He is a master of weird modulation so seeing him with one sealed the deal on buying mine
