Tagima? and/or cheap Jazzmasters

Post by Errant Tiger »

Anyone know much about these Brazilian/Chinese budget axes? Specifically, the TW-61 offsets? Thinking that what I really need in a second guitar is another Jazzmaster I can set up for weird tunings, and I'm just scoping out alternatives before I just go and buy another Squier Mascis.

If there's any good cheap alternatives to the Mascis, I'm all for suggestions.

G&L Doheny? The deluxe versions are expensive but the standard is the same price as the squier mascis. They also have MFD pickups which have a wider frequency response and a 2 way tone circuit rather the one.

Also G&L is Leo Fenders company so....

But these Tagima offset looks cool. Like the varitone addition as well.

Rondo. SX liquid. Approx $200 shipped gets you a choice of colors, bridge types, maple vs rw, p90s or HBs.

Thread is old as fuck but I've played the Tagima in a rehearsal and it was outstanding, especially for the price. It had a varitone switch too. I think it had a strat trem which is a dealbreaker for me, but good guitar.

Revelation make some surprisingly good ones. i actually got one with a quarter tone neck!

they're a little weird in that they have soapbar P90s instead of the usual JM pups & they also have a strat style Wilkinson trem, so they're kind of a strange hybrid

the one i have (which i like a lot) : https://www.revelationguitars.co.uk/gui ... rter-tone/

ooooh interesting. I feel like I could have fun with that... But on the other hand maybe it's a stupid buy? :idk:

if you're worried about resale, it's probably a stupid buy! :D

if you just want something unlike other guitars to have around, it rules.

hahahaha yes. I would not be buying it with any hope of getting the money back, no.

How do you enjoy it? Is it tremendously annoying to play the 12tet notes and ignore the quarter notes if needed?

it's definitely a challenge to play! i've had it for around 8 months, and i just recently am starting to feel like i can halfway play it.

Thanks for the info! haha yeah I can imagine. i've been trying to play more microtonal stuff on regular guitars recently and it's tricky, but to be honest I'm not sure I really do it enough to warrant buying one these lol.

I generally dislike how it looks when a jazzy doesn't have the tailpiece that I expect it to. If I was looking at saving money on a jazzmaster compared to the mascis I'd probably buy the Squier vintage modified

Though I haven't played the Tagima Jazzmaster personally, I've played a few other copies or clones.

Honestly, while they are a cool novelty and if you find one super cheap they're not the worst to have around as novelties, but a VM or CV Jazzmaster (Especially a JMJM) will be way better materials and wood. They'll hold up over time while those cheap guitars are, well, cheap for a reason.

Hmm this is super tempting! I've really wanted to get my hands on a microtonal guitar lately, but all the options I was seeing would cost at least a few hundred more than this. There's even a shop nearby that stocks these! Hopefully I can try one out to see how much I like it

that is intriguing. i'm not sure if i could use it effectively, but it would sure be interesting to try. the Varitone circuit makes a remarkably electric saz-like tone.
