I mean, I've done hundreds of tracks off 32gbs, but if you work a lot with samples or don't sanitize your exports then yeah. Paying the dollar a month for icloud is also super reasonable, makes transferring files to a desktop a breeze too. Having said that I am running on 512 gb + iCloud now so...Gone Fission wrote:Shopping for a new iPad and I’m trying to figure out how much memory is enough. I would like to do some light multitrack recording, so I’m assuming more. But is 64 GB just a joke for that sort of use?

64 gb is more than sufficient for lite recording.

This might be the craziest additive synth I've seen, holy shit that it came out of left field.
Four layer sine based additive synthesis with 512 independently enveloped partials per layer, each layer cam morph between eight states.

Re: Uncle Connies iOS Haunted Mansion!
Good if you play with audio alone, or don't do any sequencing. I have 2 and used mostly to sequence loops and parts from other apps, before I just threw it all to my computer.
Cubasis kinda shows the downsides to iOS music production, as the use for it can overpower the iPad. Less so with system resources now but that, but in interface and workflow.
I kinda feel bad ragging on it since it is a fantastic app at the end of the day, but as far as the big ios daws it's not the best.

Ah thanks. Opinions on the 'best' daw? Like something where you can route aum outputs as inputs? This is all quite new to me--appreciate the wisdom

Re: Uncle Connies iOS Haunted Mansion!
It depends on your work flow! Do you like full sampler style work flow, something Akin to ableton (though closer to an npc), BeatMaker 3 is where you want to be. If you want to sequence a bunch of synths and don't mind handling audio elsewhere NanoStudio 2 is hand down the best DAW ever. With proper audio support it'll be the best ios daw period.
I also have to throw down on Gadget 2, it has its own synths so no auv3 support. But it's the best musical sketchpad ever. It's very focused on getting your ideas down quickly. Though despite this you have a lot of control. The one song I have on my bandcamp was made entirely on Gadget 1.

Gadget seems in ways quite a lot like Reason in its earlier closed environment stages. If you’re okay with the limitations, they can help you get to work.

And like, you can export directly into ableton, or midi clips so s’not like your work is stuck there.Gone Fission wrote:Gadget seems in ways quite a lot like Reason in its earlier closed environment stages. If you’re okay with the limitations, they can help you get to work.

So does anyone use external usb pad/fader/knob stuff with their iPad? What and why? Or have you tried and decided that it wasn’t worth the fuss?

Re: Uncle Connies iOS Haunted Mansion!
You can map each fader to different apps and such, as well as to macro knobs, so it's really worth it for larger patches. I don't use one myself since I don't do full performances but the person in the video above does a lot of cool shit with it.Gone Fission wrote:So does anyone use external usb pad/fader/knob stuff with their iPad? Re: Uncle Connies iOS Haunted Mansion!
Hopefully they sort that by the time the new iPad Airs ship in October.
Speaking of which, everyone is writing that the Air 4 beats the current Pro without benchmarks or knowing any details like RAM. I dunno, all the reporting glossed over that the A12z in the Pro is a higher performance part than the basic A12 and that 6 gb of RAM matters for serious performance. I don’t mind the switch from Lightning to USB-C, but I still use wired headphones casually so am not enamored of dropping the jack. I’m probably still in. Price to performance makes it easier to get a very good interface to go with.
Anyone using a MOTU M4 with iOS?

I mean, on a price to spec level from a layman consumer POV. But we’ll see.Gone Fission wrote:Hopefully they sort that by the time the new iPad Airs ship in October.

I own both the iPad and the m4! What do you want me to test out?
