A sixer made after Peter Hook's. Pretty cool guitar even if you aren't a hooker

793% of goal pledged. Gonna be a few more runs I'll warrant....

Looks like a nice bass :snax: His sound is certainly iconic enough to warrant sig models....

yeah, they've been doing a lot of that. seems like popular ones come back, and some maybe even make the main lineup....

that is quite interesting, but what really has me in a tizzy is their copy of Jerry Garcia's Doug Irwin Wolf guitar. it's not a perfect copy--the top/back are plain maple rather than quilted, the center body piece is walnut rather than purpleheart (which apparently is a bitch to work with) and the tailpiece is incorrect--but it's as close as a civilian is going to get for $1400. neck-through and the Garcia-devised dual outputs which send from one out to an effects loop before the volume/tone controls and then back via a 3-conductor cord. i really can't afford it, but you know...

I didn't see that. Not a deadhead but i always dug their equipment. Never really got why he had the volume loop like that (was it cause of the mutron?), it is really supid but im a sucker for it. Like why wouldnt you put an fx loop on your guitar?

because he used the MuTron envelope filter extensively, which like all "quack boxes" reacts differently if you feed it a different signal (i.e. volume) level. he also didn't like when the sound/function of other boxes changed when he rolled the guitar's volume knob off. thus, he and his roadie Steve Parish devised a way to send the signal from the pickups straight to the effects, back to the guitar, through the guitar's volume/tone controls and then out to the amp. it's kind of genius, really.

the other thing they have which i find intriguing is the Warren Ellis Mandocello, which looks to be just DYING to be detuned like a bouzouki and rammed into a wall of fuzz.

I mean Warren rams them through a load of fuzz himself on the regular. So yeah! I've been thinking about getting one of those since they were first released...

As people mentioned yeah they have been doing these kickstarter things but the popular ones seem to come back as consistent models. Can see it makes sense for them! Get money upfront and gauge interest.

I love the Eastwood Mandocello and Tenor. I haven't messed with alternate tunings at all because I've been enjoying the fifths, but they both sound great through fuzz (and other pedals)! I've been eyeing up that Peter Hook bass too

So I'm going to just make this the Eastwood thread now.

I want all of these (in the walnut finish, I've never been a huge fan of sunburst):

yeah, that's a big swing by them :D

I hope at some point they look critically at their Mando fam bridge system. I have the Airline mandola and mando steel, and the current method of stringing one string of each pair from the back of the bridge toploader style, and the other through-the-body, ain't perfect. It does allow for a compact presentation and relatively straight pass over the saddles, but given the current orientation of the string-through holes it, imo, is creating some tuning and intonation issues, especially given the use of four saddles only.... :idk:

Doesn't effect any of the other instruments though....

Hmm, is that why I'm having tuning issues with my Warren Ellis Mandocello? I only notice it on top C string, which I think is one of the thru body strings, but it is really annoying. That one string goes out of tune at least 2-3 times more quickly than the rest of the instrument.

can't be sure - but i don't think it helps - you've got pretty divergent break angle and therefore tension on the pairs.

interesting that your issue is on the top string - mine is moreso on the bottom strings, for which the saddle must be adjusted further back to reach intonation. but the most annoying thing is that the intonation of each string in the pair is slightly different so that moving up the neck is painful to hear even if i get the intonation spot on for one of the pair. :grumpy:

i need to do more work on ensuring the saddles and nut slots are smooth and even in their break point though. hopefully i find a set of string where the bottom pair don't need to have the saddle so far back either.... :idk:

actually, if your only issue is the top string slipping, maybe you've just got an issue with that tuner, or maybe even a string-tie issue where the string is slipping on the peg.... :snax:

anyway - the things both sound and play great, so it really makes me want to solve this intonation issue... (it's much worse on the mandola, but that has a much higher pitch/string gauge spread).
