midi looper switcher people, advice please!

Post by starmansam »

hey folks! I need some advice from all you lovely, smart people.
I recently got a synergy syn-2, which I'm loving, but its clear that I'm going to need a midi controller to get the most out of it. it uses midi cc to switch channels. there's a synergy branded footswitch that does this out of the box, but if I'm going to add a big old footcontroller to my set up anyway, then maybe its time to look at boxes that do programmable loops as well?

what are you all using for your fussy midi preset loop rigs? I think I want something that'll let me hit one switch to chose a channel on the amp and turn on some pedals at the same time. is it possible to have some effects in the loop and some before the amp with these systems? I'm not hugely worried about form factor, as the options like the Morningstar system that has a separate midi controllable loop switcher seem great for flexibility, but systems like the boss me or ms od the voodoo labs ones seem fine too.

do I even want something this fancy? should I just keep pushing the channel switch button on the amp itself and tap dancing on pedals or should I take control of my signal chain and make decisions about sounds? I'm underinformed and overthinking, so any advice would be much appreciated
