Transparent overdrives fit into a 'broader category of effects' too but good luck telling anybody on TGP that they can subsitute one of those for, I dunno, a Boss HM-2.

If you were to linger there long enough to ignore all those who should be ignored then it really shouldn’t take much time to keep up with TGP. It would probably be mostly the “Strictly Fuzz” thread and some of the better vendors answering stupid questions from the mysterious aether.
