THE GREATEST FREEDOM FIT COVERS OF ALL TIME

Post by D.o.S. »

Just like the proper fit of a good pair of pants (Parachute), this is for the greatest, burliest, Gonna-be-playing-in-a-Kurt-Bailou-Produced-BURLY-Record-Band-To-Hide-My-Shame-At-Ever-Liking-This-Jam ever.

We're talking "Rock" covers. Le Classique. Remaking hits because your producer and your record label told you you had to in order for them to put your album out was the steeze of the day back when people could earn a living being in a niche-y band on niche-y radio.

LET US BEGIN, AT THE BEGINNING. THE UR MOOK. THE MOOKIEST PROGENITUS.

I'm sorry Chank. you did this. you did this.

Alien Ant Farm: Smooth Criminal
Because of course.
NSFW: show

Limp Bizkit: Bittersweet Symphony & Home Sweet Home.*

*Point of order: you could make an entire thread about the top-tier Limp Bizkit covers. For brevity, I bring you the best.
Also Bittersweet Symphony is the worst song of all time forever.

Powerman 5000: Relax.

Yes. The Frankie Goes To Hollywood Song.

Saliva: Message of Love

I didn't watch Not another Teen Movie. You Did. I believe this also has The Metro on it as done by System of a Down, but clearly there is only one choice for SOUNDTRACK EXCERPT PAR EXCELLANCE (also The Metro is such a banger you can't ruin it [and SOAD do a pretty good job with it all things considered])

Seether: Careless Whisper.

Literally the sound of RAWK RADIO SENSITIVE SIDE 2002-2020. Lift Weights. Drink Monster Energy. Have Feels.

Anything in here is clearly a worst cover. But it's a specific subset of worst covers. I'm not sure everyone is quite honouring the initial impulse but it's a good collection of bad shit.

   worstists? no.. worstish is findable, this about mass media poser suffocation right? I mean there is nothing wrong with covers, and sometimes the bad ones are the best, I'm sure I'm not the only one on this forum that has paid dues playing covers... and what Dos is getting that is something that I understand and a idea I have had to fight against in bands.. It's almost worse when everyone in the band is good enough to pull off the damned songs as good as or better than the original.. and you know my sister [the dj...] still insists that you always need to learn songs that people know and like so they will get you... I mean she was trying to convince us that Icebear needed to do a stray cats song... :wha?: :wha?: :wha?:

ahahahaha I have played a stray cats song in my time (you know, the one stray cats song). I think covers are great and I love them - I played in a band for years that was almost entirely covers of songs people liked. It's fun when people like what you're playing ;)

What I see this thread as is the phenomenon of bands who aren't actually particularly talented or original covering rock classics by old bands cooler and edgier than they are. And doing a straight ahead by the numbers rock version that kills the idea. As per dos' post.
