Talking About Gear Purchases With the Significant Other

My wife and I have combined everything, but I'm the bread winner. She does bring in income, but it isn't required. I regularly encourage her to spend money on things she enjoys but she is pretty conservative when it comes to spending. I manage all of the bills so there are never any questions. At times I get a little crazy and things will be coming in on the regular. The pandemic has been particularly busy w new packages, but so was 2019. I don't really spend money on anything else, but it isn't watched and I never feel the need to justify spending anyway since bills are paid, savings grows, and in general...I earn a nice living so finances are not an issue and I like to treat myself for working hard/earning and supporting a family.

Wife is less likely to notice new things, but the kids notice everything and since I let them get in on the bleeping and blooping they often report about new things with excitement to mommy. She feigns interest here and there, but mostly wants me to be happy and sometimes feels concerned that I stress myself out by going so fast and not having the time to learn everything or update my MIDI or whatever I want to do that I don't have time for.

It's all life n stuff and I'm a hobby guy...always have been and when I'm in, I go all out. She knows this and that's what she signed up for, so no issues. I think she'd pass out though if she knew what everything was worth. She does know that some stuff is crazy valuable though...but I sure hope she doesn't sell it for what I told her it is all worth after I die. That would be horrible. Hahaha
