I remember wiring up a Playstation2 Guitar Hero guitar to Ableton with a PS2->USB controller adapter, but the few buttons were not enough to really do anything with.

Guessing this has a USB cable or 1/8” TRS jack or something when the specs says “MIDI out” — at least, I wouldn’t expect to see a real MIDI DIN port on this (but don’t have one to look at in person.)

Edit: I was wrong. These have MIDI DIN - https://spinditty.com/artists-bands/Roc ... Controller
Seriously considering ordering since I have no keys right now.

Keystep. You're barely going to save anything going with a different controller and the Keystep has great feeling keys even if they're small

The Alesis Q25 is half the price, so I disagree there. But they Keystep looks like it's kinda tied for first choice atm. It's more expensive, but it's got more stuff for sure. If I can get it used, that would be nice.

Edit: After checking the Keystep out more thoroughly, I do think a used Keystep would be cheap enough to justify it over the Q25. If I could've "improved" the Keystep, I would've asked for something smaller. Maybe 16 keys like the Volca, or something that's two-three storeys. Basically something more compact and light would be good. But the Keystep isn't gigantic by any means.
