Fake news.
The JHS Klon was actually first used by The Kinks in their seminal hit Hugh Really Got Mae. This is the true origin of the fuzz

Re: History of Fuzz
Fuzz Face
If one really cares about the fuzz face you can find out yourselves, but I found some interesting things I didn't know about the fuzz face that are pretty interesting.
The Inventor Dude:
He had the coolest name, Ivor Arbiter. Sounds like a cartoon villain. Also designed the beatles logo for free. Also the person behind Sound City amplifiers.
The Shape:
The Fuzz Face looks awesome, in part because it looks like a face. Back in the day, there were no hammond MXR-sized boxes you could use. that is why the fuzzes of old all look so much better than the modern ones. The round enclosure actually comes from the bottom part of a microphone stand. I always found the round thing so impractical but cool, but it is cool to learn about the practical reason for the shape.
Some other shit:
The Fuzz Factory is essentially a Fuzz Face clone with a bunch of cool shit added. I miss my fuzz factory. Also check out Zvex man owning this guy on the internet

Re: History of Fuzz

The Mightnight Amplification pedal Slave Driver was originally called Apartheid Now!, but it had to be changed because the name was already owned by Eventide.

METAPOST TO OP:
I told my friend that this thread was a brilliant project & potentially as cool as Pete Frame's 'Rock Family Trees'.
She said: 'Pete who?'
This made me feel old.
Here is a Pete Frame Rock Family Tree from the days when dinosaurs stalked the earth.
Your fuzz tree could look like this!
