Craigslist Gem (maybe)

Post by Piecutter »

So I just messaged this guy on Craigslist that has a Fender Hot Rod Deville 410 and he’s selling it for like 280 bucks! He said it turns on everything seems to be working but the sound that he is getting is “muddy”. Does this sound like it could possibly be a cheap fix? I have a Fender Hot Rod I got from the pawn shop that is an eyesore but works perfectly. Maybe I can use the pawn shop Hot Rod to fix the one this guy is selling? Or maybe it’s just a matter of checking the speakers and tubes and replacing them. What do you guys think? I don’t have much experience with this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah, it could be tired tubes, tired speakers, or both. (I don't look at speaker replacement as being cheap though)

Sometimes muddiness is just a symptom of out of whack bias or power supply caps as well.

Thanks I appreciate your response. He wants to do it in the morning but I’m still trying to do a little research before I pull the trigger. I just recently started getting into Fender tube amps. I’ve got a garage rock project I use my ugly Hot Rod. But it’s the 112. The one this guy has is the 410. It’s also in great condition. Have a great weekend and cheers!
