I had my bike stolen last weekend, so I'm looking at cheap replacement bikes, and lemme tell ya, the low-end bike market is HORRIBLE right now. Between that whole China tariff war thing and everyone buying a bike to exercise/commute during the pandemic, you literally cannot buy a new bike under $500. Not even a single Huffy in stock at Walmart.

Anyone have thoughts on buying a used carbon fiber bike? Is there a real danger of catastrophic failure? Unclear what size it actually is but there's this: https://boulder.craigslist.org/bik/d/bo ... 17601.html

and this: https://www.playitagainsports.com/produ ... mens-bikes

Might go check this out today: https://boulder.craigslist.org/bik/d/bo ... 05016.html

Dude, that Giant looks nice.

I am not sure if their is much risk in buying used carbon fiber, I would think you could tell pretty quickly if it in bad shape.

Buying bikes now is a huge pain, I have one on order at a local shop and I can't get a firm date when they will actually have it in.

Been going back and forth with them for about 4 weeks now.

I don't really know a whole lot about bikes yet. I have a 70s Worksman industrial bike and it has a coaster brake setup, which is why I don't ride it -- I disassembled the stuff in the rear wheel and lost some pieces, so it's still not put together

Do you think this is a situation where I could just change it over to a more modern setup using a kit or something, or would I have to get a whole new wheel?

Sweet. I never even really knew how they worked. When I pulled all the little pieces out I quickly attributed it all to black magic.

I love those bikes that are crossovers with car companies. It just seems like such a funny thing to do. No experience with that bike or anything similar, unfortunately.

I'm picking up that craigslist single speed today. I need to do some stuff to it right off the bat, but I'll post a pic once it's dialed in.

How did I miss this thread?

Old Crescent världsmästarcykel that I lightly modded with a cheap MTB bar and a cargo rack. Need to tune up the gears, left hand shifter not acting right but i really enjoy it :)

Front basket is the best. It's just so dang useful. Also dig that one in particular, qersty! I mostly see Wald baskets (I have one and another on the way for the new bike), so whenever I see something different I get stoked.

haha seriously. Do the upturned sides not make it arguably a basket, if we're going to split hairs? Or do the small gaps near between the sides and the back make it definitely not a basket?
