Endangered Audio Research AD4096

Post by Adoom »

I am seriously GAS’ing for one of these at the moment. I have been for years but it’s at a fever pitch at the minute.

Any thoughts my lovely brethren?
I play.

The aesthetics are great, but I feel like any “analog” delay using the Pt2399 chip is similar enough that the Endangered’s price tag is not justified.

Yeah it's all down to the individual voicings of pedals no matter the technology involved. I would really like to try one of these because I've heard such great things. Just can't justify the price tag merely to try it out.

I wish there were more 616 Dark pedals out there.

I did some thinking on it, but I reckon the fact I could pick up like, 2 of the 3 pedals I’m looking at for a Nano+ Board for less made my decision. It is an awful nice piece of Kit. But the Fuck Overdrive is the best goddamn overdrive pedal I’ve ever used and if the ss/bs Mini can get me that beautiful crunch I desire so hard...
I play.

Interesting, I tried the normal 616 and it was fine but not materially better than the PT2399 delay I have.

Both fuck AND mini? Interesting

Right, out of all the 2399 delays, the 616 Dark is what I’d pick for standard analog sound. The original standard 616 goes for ~$120 on Reverb, not bad. I haven’t tried a Mojo Hand Dream Mender but that’s on my list to try.

Aesthetics do matter when it comes to pedals, and so does the tone you need for your particular rig. Unfortunately fender pickups and fender amps skew way more towards the bright side, and many later products went for this sound, too. (Fuck OD will let you get dark, I used to run it all the time at the end of my signal chain for so long that I’d forgotten what trebly guitar sounded like when I played it.)

Whereas I always used to run my Fuck OD as bright as it would go. Haha.

I think it was the novelty at the time — almost every tubscreamer OD I’d tried before was uncomfortably trebly and didn’t get dark, just muddy as you took out treble. (This was a long time ago. 8+ years ago? Something like that.)

I’m definitely going to go for a Mini. ss/bs makes just like, the perfect Overdrive. I lent the Fuck OD some time ago, just messaged the guy to see can he mail it back to me.

Most likely a Shigeharu Fuzz too.

I don’t know what I was thinking. I think I just saw the EAD and thought it was pretty and man I hope Juan Aldarete turns out ok.
I play.

I just can't get past the weird posts they made when they used to pop up every once in a while and talk about the latest thing in development.

I have missed a fair bit. Are they out of commission now or did something untoward go on?

It is a very musical sounding delay, I like the quality of the repeats that I’ve heard. I also remember being about a hundred bucks cheaper.

Think the guy got in over his head and didn't have the best communication or marketing skills.

Here's a thread.

And here's my being grumpy:

EndangeredAudioMark wrote:The Gristleizer is a totally different pedal, literally component-for-component, than Spectravibe. It will definitely hold a place sonically, but we personally think the old Gristleizer VCF circuit that went into that version is shite, and the new one in Spectravibe sounds a lot better. And yeah, there have been lots of delays, but it's two steps backwards, three steps forwards. If we had gotten it out on time, it wouldn't be as cool as it is now. I think people will agree it's going to be the best most versatile AND affordable analog modulation pedal on the market. We really should be charging like $350-$400 for all the engineering that went into this, but especially since we don't do dealers anymore, we can keep our prices down.
Honestly, every time these guys make a post, it further deters me from buying any of their products. "Yeah, we're working really hard and we should be charging a whole lot more for R&D. You're welcome it's not $500" ... "You're getting a super deal on this discount, but we're going to give everyone the same discount in a month, anyway." ... "The last batch of stuff we put out we admittedly thought sucked, but charged around the same price that this batch will be. This batch is awesome." :idk: Maybe I'm too jaded?

Edit: It also seems like the only time I see them post is when I'm a few drinks in, so maybe it's a Me Problem.

Edit Edit: You know what, man - you do you. *I'm* probably the asshole in this scenario.
