The Axaloti is a great piece of kit but the UI is like the Windows 95 version of Max MSP and ultimately fighting with the interface when I could use something that was way more powerful (although obviously not a standalone thing) wasn't worth it because I'm never going to use it outside of a PC.

Yeah. If somebody did something with that UI in an aesthetically pleasing fashion people would go nuts for it. Doesn’t help them I’m just dumb and can’t do fuck all with it.

VCVrack. I thought it was gonna be like reliving my teenage days of fucking around in the nord g2 and learning how to build stuff from scratch but it felt more like a youtube electronica machine. Most of the moments where i felt super stoked about it was "hell yeah this filter sounds so nasty" rather than having learned cool patching techniques.

One day I'll get a g2 for a reasonable price...

EQD Rainbow Machine. I couldn't find a context to use it in and didn't see it as something I would use in more than one song so it was flipped.

Jaguar HH. It's just boring. No quirks, just a solid guitar. Got it when my SGV was stolen in 2006 and was like, "wow, a real, nice guitar" but I started missing my SGV as we played more shows.

Revolver DT (I had DT, not DX). Same kinda thing. I'd rather use a DSD with an elaborate trigger setup. It did everything so well, I just didn't want to explore it. Plus I rarely loop more than a few milliseconds.

Edit, phone typing blunders!

Revolver DX here too and I do like it but I always used it in a pretty unorthodox way, meaning I was chasing a single sound and could not replicate it for some fucking reason. hahaha, so I gave up. I mean, after I bought it 4 more times....maybe 5.

I had the version with 2 minutes of loop time too. I just didn't jive with it still. I love his pedals too.

i’ve just been playing acoustic for all of 2019 and 2020. It’s really tempting to sell off most of my effects and my extra electric guitars and my 120w head that I haven’t used in over a decade. I like fooling around with sounds from time to time but it doesn’t usually help me write/record music, which was ostensibly the point of the gear. I’m not into weird sound effects like I used to be—there doesn’t seem to be much of a point to them when I don’t have anything musical to say with them.

Sorry for the bummer post.

Maybe I don’t love THE RAT as much as I think I do? I have a super nice flat box vintage one with the kvlt chip that just sits in a box. I like it, but I never use it. I love the aesthetic of it but maybe I’m not a RAT GUY.

Also I love the HM-2 but since I bought the HMD-1 the OG sits in the same box as the Rat. The clone hath surpassed its master.....

I feel you, I dont vibe with them either, not enough gain and the highs are just weird to me

I've only tried Rats briefly and never owned them but they seem pretty cool. I think I have enough pedals for OD/distortion sounds that I'm not in any rush to get one though.

:idk: it took me almost 20 years to like rats, i got one when i was 17 and never used it because it sounded bland and traded it.. Then on a whim i got another.. Still found it bland.. But when i switched from all tube amps to a ss pwer amp a few years ago my favorite fuzzes and ods no longer sat in the mix right so i retried everything i had and the rat won so i used that in a blend loop type pedal and it was awesome in a band context.. I still find them bland and meh on thier own though..

Not sure about Rats for bass, but whenever I want that compression and huge 90’s guitar distortion sound (guilty pleasure Weezer Blue Album songs, I’m looking at you), my Dirge Rat delivers. (Granted, I think I’m running it without diodes — on a switch on the Dirge but you’d have to mod a switch for that into regular Rats, I believe.)

I like Rats even though my favorite one was a revised version with no clipping diode, so not sure if it counts.
