Boss PH-3 exclusively for stepped phasing, I don't care for the other functions.

Same here - and because I much prefer my Phase 95, I don't keep the Boss on the board, which means I never even use it for that. See my post on B/S/T for details

oh well, I just got a Digitech Hyperphase for ultra cheap on the local classifieds to get some more stepped phaser sounds going. Maybe next time

Sorry to derail the thread here for a minute, I just had to ask, cause I'm torn between a PH-3 (purely for the step mode) and a phase 90 or 95 (lush and chewy at low speeds).

I'm guessing the Hyper Phase won't do a stellar job mimmikcing phase 90 tones? My board space and budget won't allow 2 phasers on my board, and it'd also be overkill for an effect I don't use constantly.

Also, anyone tried a step phaser effect inti the fx loop of a delay pedal? In my head it sounds sick, but I can't seem to find any good clips to confirm it

While the non-stepped modes on the PH-3 are very useful and good general purpose phaser sounds, I don't think you can get it to the extreme. I've never tried a Phase90/95, tho...

Other than fuzz, I guess my BitQuest is the closest I get as it stays in the reverb mode about 90% of the time. It's been my main reverb forever and will probably stay that way. It just works for me.

Same. Reverb is amazing and even though has many other brilliant sounds this is the only thing i've used it for live.

Maybe it's a career injury, having worked as a UNIX programmer, but I prefer my pedals to do one thing, and do it well.

Most of the stuff on my board is kinda 'set and forget', but of the top of my head the ones that I hardly ever use in more than one way:

DE-7 is absolutley spot on how I've always used it too.
I general agree with you guys here, although I'm more of a "set and remember" :P kind of guy. And then from that I kind of build my sound/songs around combinations of those sounds. Only problem with it is I have a hard time taking anything off the board and keep adding stuff, so will soon have to start thinking about "multiple sounds in one pedal"-solutions, though I really don't want to go the multi-route. As for a specific example I've had my RV-5 on the same setting in modulate mode for about 10 years now.

I never use the Canyon as a delay, and nearly 100% of the time I have it in Tape mode with the tape distortion maxed.

I only use the Loop mode on my Hardwire DL-8. Mostly because I prefer the hold-to-record method to the hit once to start/hit again to stop paradigm.

My Dark World is nearly always in Plate mode with the mix at like 8 o'clock, which makes me think maybe I don't need a zillion dollar pedal to do that job.

Same pedal but different use, i use it most of the time in Ring Mod mode, it's soooo well done.

Also, in my band, i use the Count to 5 only for straight Pitch Shifting: zero delay, zero loops, just straight pitch shifting, to me it sounds better than real pitch shifters. (even though, when i'm not playing live, i use it with all the other modes).

This thread had me thinking about my Empress Phaser. I have it set to a slow Phase 90 setting just dialed back a little in the mix so that it doesn't take over the whole tone. It sounds perfect for my use but I wasn't taking advantage of all the other things this pedal can do because - no presets. The other day I marked my settings with some tiny neon stickers so that I can explore more tones.

What do you guys do to mark your settings if there are no presets? I'm looking at my Fabrikat and Molecular Disruptor and wondering the best way to make these more useful in real life settings.

I often take a picture before starting to mess with the controls, that way I can just check on my phone to get an idea about the old settings... phone cameras have gotten really good, so even taking a photo of the whole board and then zooming in on different pedals works quite well. Except if you have stacked knobs like on some boss pedals, there you would probably have to take extra photos...

Yeah I do that too. But then I find myself scrolling thru my photos trying to find the right one. And then I spend 45 minutes looking at vacation pics.

I see that some guitarists will put a long piece of masking tape under the knobs and draw their settings. That also works.

I guess what I'm wondering is the best way to mark multiple settings on the pedal. I think what I'll do is use different colored stickers for each tone that I like. But I'm always curious for more advice. "Lack of presets" is a general complaint on this forum for good reason. I'm curious how people get around this problem.

If I were going to do it for a gig because I really couldn't avoid it I'd definitely go the masking tape route. Tried and true.

yep, ive got the pitch knob on my Rainbow Machine taped down.

also fits into this thread kind of as a twoish trick pony have it set for a moddy slap delay and then turn on the magic for oscillations
