Aubrey who?
Just finished reading the press release for Red Witch's new Seraphina octave fuzz. The pedal obviously derives its fin de siecle look&feel from the artwork of Aubrey Beardsley, so I figured this was going to be a tie-in with the recent Tate London retrospective and Mark Gatiss/BBC film.
No mention of Aubrey on the press release or the Red Witch site. I tracked down the source artwork as "John the Baptist and Salome" of 1893--4 on Wikipedia in a couple of minutes. John has been airbrushed but the image is otherwise intact.
I don't want to sound stroppy here (and I really dig the Violetta delay) but I think Mr. Fulton owes Aubrey a credit and an explanatory para. Small print would be fine.

Re: Aubrey who?
It does seem very rude not to credit the art. I know he's dead and all but why not tell people where you got it?

We should send Aubrey Plaza after him.

Re: Aubrey who?
That is a nice lookin' pedal.
Too bad there's no tip of the hat to the artist. The art may be in the public domain?

Re: Aubrey who?
two possibilities:
1) guitarists are such lowly creatures, he shrugged and thought, "what's the point?"
2) being a man of letters and ladies, he just took it for granted that everyone would instantly identify with the aesthetic auteur.

The art almost certainly is as the artist died over a hundred years ago.

Re: Aubrey who?
There’s a possibility that they don’t even know who the artist is. Lol. I see people do old artwork like this all the time and no one gives credit to anyone. It looks cool though. That price tho.

Can we talk about the knobs being on top and the jacks on the side? Maximum pedalboard friendliness. Lol

Both very true! Personally I feel.... very very mildly about this. But, it's the sort of thing where if you do know I think it's polite to credit. Not least because it helps people who like the art find more. Definitely not a thing I would get up in arms about.Blackened Soul wrote:There is a lot of art on pedals that isn't credited...
Buuut on the other hand... whatever

Re: Aubrey who?
If nothing else, this thread has reminded me to add credits to my Bandcamp albums
I got the images from a royalty free site, and after the second one I thought "maybe I ought to credit the owner of this" but never got round to it - I have made amends now.
