Ripcord USB to DC power cable

I was watching a Hainbach video and he mentioned this adaptor product (http://myvolts.com/page.php?xPage=MV_Ripcord), which you apparently can use with a portable USB power supply to power pedals, synths, etc. Has anyone used this? I would love to be able to use say my Volca(s) with a portable phone charger to avoid wasting battery / being plugged into an outlet. I don't know the intricacies of those chargers (and PSUs in general) to know if there's any potential for harming your equipment or whether or not they'd be effective / last long.
