Howdy! I've become a bit obsessed with that "dry" Fryette amp distortion sound and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for pedals or even rack preamps that might get me close. I'm running through a super clean amp.
Thanks for your time!

I dont think you can get much better than a gp3 valvulator. I have seen them go for like 500 bucks which is alot of pre for the money. You dont have to be that picky about the power amp either as from what I've understood their poweramps are really clean so you could go class d and still get the tone. What amp are you running btw?

Fryette GP/DI has a few of his preamp architectures and a small power section in a compact, portable box that can be used as a headphone or practice amp, as a preamp, or as a full amp DI sound to a PA or for recording. I keep thinking about getting one since it checks a lot of boxes for me. $700-something new, $550 and up used. Only downside is no footswitching of channels, but if you do pedals for fuzz, dirt, and boost, you’ll be okay.

I have both the SAS and Boostassio, but they're their own thing with the EF86, not really like the "classic" Fryette high gain sound. I believe maybe AMT and/or a Japanese maker I can't remember attempted to make a Fryette-in-a-box deal, but I've never heard it. Would definitely recommend the GP/DI or GP3, though. There's also a new version of the GP/DI coming out with built-in IRs, but I don't think it's shipped yet.
