many good suggestions already, but you might also want to check out the boss rcl-10. it's a micro-rack unit, so if want to use limiting as an always-on effect you can just stick it on top of your amp.

Yes, that's a good suggestion. And I bet that it shares a lot with the circuit of the LM-2 which is my "always on" guitar pedal.

I think I found the pedal I've imagined. DOD's old compressor seems to destroy any attack going in to it without going squishy.

Tho I wanna try like a dyna comp too, think I've caught the compressor bug. YEE HAW!
