Gotchya. I already edited my previous post, but I think both are valid. Sample libraries are dope af but to me their hella intimidating and I'd rather be limited and finish a track sooner than be unlimited and spending too much time hunting for the right pack/picking the right sample.D.o.S. wrote:Samples sir!

Re: Elektron Model Cycles - happy or sad butt wiggles?
What attracted me to the Digitone a year ago was the percussive sounds. So prickly and metallic, and the kicks are huuuuge. I saw a Baseck video where he used it as a drum machine, and I needed it. If this came out a year ago I'd have been all over it, but I'm glad I got the Digitone in the end, as I'm using it for much more than percussion now, and it's my favourite piece of gear I own
The Cycles looks mint though. I have the Model Samples and the immediacy of it all makes it great fun. I lob it in a backpack and make beats on the go, and do the deeper and mangly stuff at home on the Digitakt. I really am quite tempted to get a Cycles for the same sort of useage. FM drums just do it for me. Velocity sensitive pads and re-triggering are the two things I really wish were on the Digitone, so that might well sway me.

I think both are good. If I could only pick one it's samples and that's what I'm working with for now, but I also like limited drum machine style things like this or the drum or the DFAM. Having both for a combination of the immediacy and the flexibility is probably best.Ghost Hip wrote:Gotchya. I already edited my previous post, but I think both are valid. Yeah I skipped Samples because I already owned a Digitakt, but I jumped on Cycles because I wanted a more limited, straight forward drum machine type thing. I think both options are great.coldbrightsunlight wrote:I think both are good. Forgot to mention my Model:Cycles showed up today and it's pretty awesome. Most intimidating thing with it so far is figuring out what stickers to put on it

Yeah exactly. Makes a lot of sense and I wouldn't necessarily rule out getting a Cycles or something similar myself in the future.MrNovember wrote:Yeah I skipped Samples because I already owned a Digitakt, but I jumped on Cycles because I wanted a more limited, straight forward drum machine type thing. Haha, that was just a stupid giveaway thing for a Minilogue XD. I don't normally enter those becausebehndy wrote: also, Mr. Monthy Mans - i saw a notification pop up on IG that you mentioned me in a comment, but those don't show up in the notifications tab FOR SOME FUCKING REASON so i'm not ignoring you just have no idea where it was.

1) the odds are terrible
2) the requirements are usually: follow these 95 brands, repost this picture every day, and tag every single one of your friends
But this one wasn't ridiculous to enter and I thought of you and your new non-modular explorations.

Seems like a slick interface and sounds great. Any elegant way to sync this with modular. No? Just MIDI? That sucks.

Re: Elektron Model Cycles - happy or sad butt wiggles?
Well, I do have a couple sampler/sampling drum machines, but I enjoy synth based drums, too, and Cycles strikes me as far more capable than the Volca Drum, both FM synths.D.o.S. wrote:Why would you not want a sampler for drums?aen wrote:Ugh Now I really wish I hadn't jumped on that KOrg Volca Drum. Cause Model Cycles is better.
Like, not to get battle to the death over it, but I feel like a limited synthesised drum machine vs. whatever you want is always going to lose out here.

I plan on just hooking the midi up to a keystep/beatstep or my Matriarch and syncing that way when the time comes. But yeah no direct CV in/out.codetocontra wrote:Seems like a slick interface and sounds great. Any elegant way to sync this with modular. No? Just MIDI? That sucks.

i mean, mmMIDI is cheap and tiny? only turns 2 channels into CV and Gate, but when i had the Shuttle Control i never used more than 2 unless i was doing drums.
