It's really good Elektron is releasing these budget AND user friendly options. I only paid 700 for an Octatrack but if I knew what the thing can do, I wouldn't bother to pay up to 2K.behndy wrote:righhhhhhhht? price is AMAZEbutts.tremolo3 wrote:Price is good.
The size of the Samples/Cycles is also amazing!

So I'm pretty sure I mentioned that I wasn't interested in this thing in a different thread, but I'm actually getting pretty curious about it. I would like some kind of standalone drum machine, which it looks like the Model Cycles really excels at that. Also, the price is really good.

Re: Elektron Model Cycles - happy or sad butt wiggles?
boop. first mess around with mines that just got in -

i dig it a lot so far! only had it about a day, but it has all the things i liked from the Digi boxes sequencers, but BETTER. stuff like chance and conditional triggers are on a knob (same one, you swipe through Fill options, then what percentage chance for the event, then into deeper conditions), and having almost all the tone shaping funtions mapped to a knob is BOSS.
it's super quick and, especially if you've used/like Elekton loots, pretty intuitive after understanding 2 or 3 things about how they like to do things.
lol. something i thought was shitty design but was user error - worked on some stuff, saved it, powered my music yarea down, went about my day, came back to play around more, it loaded up into the default demo Project, which has 32 patterns (that are neat, and show a lot of what it can do. but presets? yes. pre-written patterns? no. no THANK you.), thought i'd fucked up and not saved my work.
apparennnnnntly, if you click the power supply you have everything attached to that doesn't have an on/off switch, you load to first Project. if you power down the Cycles CORRECTLY, by holding down the power button and letting it go through it's shutdown process, it loads into the last state you were at. even remembers what's muted and not.
one design choice i do love that would be neat if you could choose how it works is the muting. it's like a global mute per track, so if you're on Pattern 01 and mute the first pad/track, load Pattern 02, still muted. i'm used to copying a pattern across a few spots and evolving some parts but just muting others.
annnnnnd when i try to delete the og Stock Project (has all the demos) it says it's write protected. not reallllly an issue, there's a ton of save space, but i get annoyed being told what i can and can't do with the memory and file structure of a device i own.
overall though, the minorest of quibbles. i'm having a blast with it.

Are you sure it only does global muting? I have no idea and haven't read the manual but the digitakt can do either global OR per-pattern muting and it's not immediately obvious that the option exists.

i'm not! it's annoying so i hope there's something i'm missing!
first thing with a new hardware box, i always go through the settings menu. adjust what immediately makes sense, read in the manual what is iffy in my brain meats. i saw nothinnnnnng about Mutes Behavior, but hopefully i either missed it, or they will add it in an update.
lol. because Elektron is AWESOOOOOMEEEE about updating things in a timely manner.

Samples is amazing. Cycles looks kind of like the lack of real ASDR would be a deal breaker for me.

Yeah they're great. It might be different but it seems a bit odd to me that they'd have this mute functionality in one box and not port it to the rest?? But maybe they didbehndy wrote:i'm not! it's annoying so i hope there's something i'm missing!

Re: Elektron Model Cycles - happy or sad butt wiggles?
Finally got mine after a mailbox mishap and I see a lot of potential with this in my creative process. This is my first Elektron product so I'm not as familiar with their workflow, but I finally created a pattern that sounds focused today and can't wait to keep practicing and get to know it better. Very interested in the potential for polyrhythms.

You know how people get about companies where they won't shut the fuck up about how they're the best and everything else is clearly trash in comparison?
Well Elektron are the best and everything else is clearly trash in comparison.
