I know this can be done manually inside a DAW and i do that as is, but i wanted to ask ILF if there is any plugin, or even DAW, that allows you to basically loop live (in the same way that you would use something like a ditto) and records every dub as a separate stem inside it so that when you are done playing a set, you can then go in and mess around with all those stems to mix/master/do stereo panning, etc. Wanted to ask if anyone has had real world experience with this sort of thing. If there is anything out there that would work in this way, it would save me tons of time and would allow me to also throw a single mic in front of an amp to get things down and out of my head (or record improv stuff and later go back to deconstruct/rearrange it).
I don't want to sit in front of a computer programming something to do this, so the more forward and concise it is, the better. If i have to sit and program something to do something similar to this, then im better off just doing what i am currently doing with composing and arranging stuff.
any suggestions would be great

Reaper has this as a built-in feature that doesn't require any programming whatsoever and is quicker and easier than loading a VST up. I do it when recording vocals so that I can just keep going non-stop for about 15 minutes until I've worn myself out and have the take I want somewhere in there, just set your loop point and go at it. Finding a VST that did this exact thing would be really excessive and unnecessary; the time you'd spend downloading and installing it could be spent getting a drink, having that drink, wondering why it's so difficult in adult life to just get enough sleep and then get on with your recording.

I use this all the time for recording different takes of a vocal or just for writing, but what it doesn't really do that a looper does is keep playing back the last recorded bit. It just saves them and you can only hear what you're currently playing, which works as I'd like it to for tracking but I'm not quite sure is what ibarakishi is looking for?Olin wrote:

Re: Plugin/DAW similar to Ditto X4 looper to record in DAW
It does do that if you want it to, it's all super customisable: To get it to play back previous takes while recording new ones just change the monitoring mode to "Monitor track media while recording" (by right-clicking the little speaker you usually use to change or activate monitoring). From inside options > preferences you can choose whether you want to explode the takes automatically into new tracks or just keep them inside the same track, set it to split the takes at the end of each loop or have it done after stopping recording, etc. I always feel like I'm being patronising or condescending when giving instructions
, hope this is helpful to someone.

Oh thanks so much, I had no idea!! That's awesome I'm going to use this a bunch
I know I should have looked into the settings to see if this was possible before answering saying it's not possible, I feel like a dummy now.
so I don't feel condescended to, in fact rather the opposite.

I try not to stan Reaper too much because it gets really annoying I think, but there really isn't much it can't do or isn't compatible with. For like fifty quid ya really can't go wrong.

Oh I love it so much. And this is my experience every time I think "why doesn't reaper do X?" Turns out it does somehow
For sure other DAWs do stuff better but for the price it's reet good.
