Anyone tried a DD-8 yet?

Going to swing by guitar center tomorrow and pick up a DD-8 tomorrow, I think. I just sold my DD-7, but I think the 8's "upgrades" may make it worth while for my needs ( utility stereo delay in front of a Tera Echo and DC-2w for digitone ambient)

Curious if anyone has tried one out and have thoughts on the warm and glitch settings. Is the reverse any better than DD-7?

I have one that’s permanently in the glitch mode. It’s my favorite glitch pedal I’ve tried so far. The warm is really good but it and the analog don’t sound a ton different.

It's pretty great. IMO it has everything you need in one small package. Good to have.

Intriguing. Only thing that puts me off is the tap tempo situation. Seems a waste to have a delay pedal with tap tempo functionality where it isn't right there on the box instant access. But the DD-200 looks nearly less good and doesn't have some of the DD-8 modes I'd want, and the DD-500 is just too much.

It's got an input for external TT. Not that I ever use it.

Yeah, it's like some of the old units that the foot switch is in studder mode that when you depress it you capture a coupla' seconds of audio pretty much. It's cool.

Apparently ping-pong is the panning mode output option. Huh. I really should have read the manual <g>.

I picked one up, Initial thoughts is that the algos sound like a slight improvement over the DD-7, atleast the ones shared. Warm mode is as good as I hoped, hugs the sound a little better than standard. Glitch mode does what I liked the DD-3 for. Shimmer isn't too bad, but I don't hate it as much as some, so I'm nice to it.
StI'll working to understand warp, it may need experience setting. I picked up a used FS-5u as well for instant tap tempo access.

The only complaints I have so far is some aspects of the build quality. The knob travel is inconsistent in the resistance department. Feels really tight until it hits a short range of more loose turning travel. Not nearly as balanced of pot feel as any other boss pedal I've used. Also the rubber bottom no longer has "Boss" molded into it and on this style of rubber plate the rubber balls up and sheds when rubbed. After noticing these things I realized it was the first "made in Malaysia" boss pedal I've had and I'm sad to say the cosmetic quality took a small dip. Going to need to find a new backplate as I'm really not digging the shedding rubber.
I had a broken metal zone that I just tossed like 3 months ago cuz it made me sad and couldn't fix it....REALLY wish I had kept the backplate, what a dumby.


I'll report back after more thorough testing.

Cool! Thanks for the write-up. Glitch looks like a fairly ideal simple glitch for my uses. I don't do that enough to buy a pedal for it but it's a good simple implementation of the idea.

Shame about the cosmetic stuff...

I know you can use an external tap tempo I just.. don't want to get another thing to use the pedal I already got.

Per my Roland rep at work the new backplate rubber is so it comes off easier for Velcro which I honestly like. That said the overall QC on standard line Boss stuff has definitely taken a tiny dip.

Interesting regarding the rubber, makes sense but I don't use velcro anyway so it shedding is just a plain negative, it attracts a little more debris as it's got more of a tacky texture as well. The pots worked themselves out a bit with some rigorous twisting but still don't have the feel of my other boss and even old dod pots.

These issues are extremely minute though and are my only complaints, the construction is standard boss quality and the sound is the best of all the DD's imo.

It's interesting how this 0edal can't really replace the DD-7 though, without the various digital time settings, the DD-8 is not merely an improved DD-7, like all others, they all have their strengths and weaknesses and thus should probably he amassed and not constantly sold off like I do. Really wishing I hadn't sold my DD-7 toward this as the DD-7 has 3200ms delay, DD-8 is max 800ms (except reverse's 5000ms max)
