What MIDI controller are you using with the EDP? Was thinking about getting one to use with the regular footswitch to unlock all the potential.whoismarykelly wrote:I use midi with the EDP in addition to a custom footswitch. I use an EDP pro because its the only thing that offers worthwhile creative options controllable on the floor in real time. I initially thought Blooper would be cool but once it was done I realized it was foolish to believe it was meant to be used like a pedal. Its like 856 for Zellersasn and pretty much has to be used on a table top with both hands to get your $500 worth.

Does the RJM have EDP CC messages already installed or did you have to create your own general controller setup?
Are you using the regular 7 stomps in your DIY footswitch plus the 7 button MIDI controller?
Are you finding it easy to manage jumping to different pages for other settings?
I have only begun my MIDI foot controller search. Any insight into how you use yours or thoughts on other controllers would be welcomed.

RJM is by far the best stuff. Very easy to use PC editor and any button can do anything. I use a custom controller I made for the normal functions and the MIDI controller for all the extra 'effects' kinda stuff. The only other page I have is for amp channel switching so its not a massively complex setup. Lots of my other pedals offer midi but I like to use them in their simple format.

Thanks for the info. Now I am thinking the Morningstar MC8 might work nicely for me. Seems easy enough to switch banks for different layouts for switching up the palette of fun stuff. The little screen means I wouldnt have to memorize locations.

I used to be a big fan of the Behringer FCB1010. I used to use it to control a pair of Electrix Repeaters and that thing was incredible.

EDP guru Andre LaFosse uses that Behringer. Dude has like 100 instructional videos that really show off the nitty gritty. It sort of clicked in my head that I have not been maximizing my potential by just sticking with the regular foot controller and ignoring MIDI. So here we are.

I don't think he uses the Behringer because its great. I think it just does the job. When you watch him program the pedal it looks pretty miserable compared to a PC editor. Also those Behringer pedals are huge.
I don't know if the Morningstar has the level of programability but maybe Im just thinking of the old ones. I remember their products only sending program changes before. Is the MC8 a more full-featured controller?

Not 100% sure about Morningstar compatibility. Planning to read the manual tonight.
And yeah, LaFosse seems to just keep using the Behringer because it worked good enough long ago and he knows the work flow quite well now. Even in one video he said it rattles when he shakes it but it still works. Apparently not interested in upgrading. Interesting approach.

Programming the Behringer is a bit of a bear, but it isnt hard. There are a few basic concepts you need to grasp and then it is just programming the switches.
I am not sure why so many people are scared of MIDI, it is super easy.
- every device receives data on the channel set (you have 16 channels to work w)
- devices accept PCs (program changes) and CCs (control changes). The main difference is a CC comes w a value, kinda like a knob where it can be set in a variety of positions...a PC is like a button or a preset, on/off or usually just on and the next PC switches something else on.
Thats it. Easier than programming a universal remote.

Is that a fixed model or custom? I caught some mention of full rosewood necks being available as a custom option on a bunch of Fender models. A rather exuberant way to celebrate the recent CITES exemption.
Solid rosewood used to be a thing 20-30 years ago but fell off a bit. Roasted maple seems to be the thing these days. Still curious to try a full rosewood.
