Re: GEAR GOALZ 2020 - Cause Foresight Is 2020 ;)
as is every year, my main gear resolution is to finally find a better reverb situation for myself
currently have an RRR and an RV500
- part of me wants to stick with my RRR and supplement with another ~more ambient~ option and sell the RV500. I know there is a tonne of stuff in the RV that could give me what i need but i just hate the interface a lot. maybe an empress reverb?? similar big box feel with presets but no menus? idk idk

in an optimized world i would also get a synth, probably one of the Behringer clones for price point though i'd have a Nord Wave in moments if i could afford it. however, they cost about 60% of the price of my current car, so...

Don't worry I own a double bass worth more than my car and my fretless is borderline
I thought of a new goal! Replace piano and microkorg with ONE smallish keyboard instrument. Looking for something compact to do the classic piano sounds and basic synths, and act as a midi controller. I have other things for going off the synth deep end.

I'm on a similar quest...but so my daughter can "learn piano" - interested to hear what you come up with. Any early contenders you are looking into?coldbrightsunlight wrote:I thought of a new goal! I really wasn't ready to get another pedal this year besides the stone splitter once RMA births it... but the new pedal from Uncle Doug... is really yanking my dick.

Looking hard at the Yamaha reface cp because I love electric piano sounds and mini keys don't annoy me toooo much but idk if it's suitable for actually learning piano. It doesn't seem like there are any options for high quality keybeds smaller than 88 keys except like, Nord stuff which is expensive. Which makes sense because it's a niche thing to be interested in.cosmicevan wrote:I'm on a similar quest...but so my daughter can "learn piano" - interested to hear what you come up with. I sold my piano anyway, onwards and upwards

I suggest you grab it and then flip it to me if you don't like it enough.$harkToootth wrote:I really wasn't ready to get another pedal this year besides the stone splitter once RMA births it... but the new pedal from Uncle Doug... is really yanking my dick.

Re: GEAR GOALZ 2020 - Cause Foresight Is 2020 ;)
Barely into 2020 and I've already got a bunch of changes, but also a few completed goals!MrNovember wrote:Gear:
1) buy pedals to finish up pedal board ideas - OBNE Signal Blender & a looper of some sort (Ditto X2 or Clone Looper are current front runners, might get both), DAPE #rip - rearranged my pedalboards and realized the only thing I really need is a looper, so I'm moving the Signal Blender and Rip to the gas list
2) buy pedals because of gas - OBNE MAW, Drolo Stretch Weaver, DAPE #rip, OBNE Signal Blender
3) buy a pedalboard and power supply for my bass pedals - partially complete; got a pedalboard for Christmas
4) mod my Jaguar
5) buy a Teenage Engineer PO-33 because I need more samplers for some reason - complete; got this for Christmas as well and it is super fun!
6) buy a QuBit Bloom, Make Noise Mimeophon, Intellijel Quadrax because eurorack is a terrible addiction - not complete, but I am strongly considering getting completely out of the eurorack game
7) replace my dead computer; probably build a proper desktop
8) buy things if my time comes up on the waitlist and I have money available - Rob Hordijk Blippoo Box, Demedash T120
9) NEW GOAL: flip all of my euro gear for a Moog Grandmother (to pair with the Matriarch) and to afford some of these other goals

Well fuck, I just did the math and if I sell my euro at a loss and buy a Grandmother brand new, then I'll still walk away with about $2k in my pocket.MrNovember wrote: 6) buy a QuBit Bloom, Make Noise Mimeophon, Intellijel Quadrax because eurorack is a terrible addiction - not complete, but I am strongly considering getting completely out of the eurorack game

I won a Blooper so I guess I have to learn how to use a looper... Whenever I've tried in the past, it just sounds awful. Just trite crap that highlights my inadequacies as a guitar player.
I put a deposit on a holiday-discount Science Mother. I suspect I'll need to try out a couple of different speaker setups to figure out what works best for me.

Wow that's a big change! I'm also considering flipping all my euro for alternative things. I'm going to wait until the new case that I just ordered on Boxing Day comes in, but if I'm not feeling any inspiration from it (which has been the case for awhile), then I'm going to flip the lot.coldbrightsunlight wrote:Wow that's a big change! Do I have reason to be alarmed... like the aluminum neck?coldbrightsunlight wrote: Wow that's a big change! I'm also considering flipping all my euro for alternative things. Maybe.
Yes, I'm very vested in this.

Re: GEAR GOALZ 2020 - Cause Foresight Is 2020 ;)
Not immediately... First plan is get digitakt, and see if I can essentially do the noises I like from euro with that (and a couple of pedals) which from research I'm 90% sure I can. Then if it works, sell euro or at least some of it (morphagene).
But if I sell it all off I will have something that looks like aluminium neck or amp money
I feel not dissimilar Mr N. I have no regrets about getting all the euro because it was great fun, I've made some really fun sounds with it, and it's helped me to understand better what I want out of gear. But I think ultimately I prefer using discrete pieces of gear with less patching when I want to deliberately make music and play in bands and stuff. But I'm not ruling out keeping some euro for the random exploratory fun. It's like a set of oblique strategies in a box sometimes

Oblique Strategies in a box is a great description of euro! And yes, that's exactly how I feel about euro; it's been great fun, but overall, I feel it's much easier to concentrate on making music and learning my setup with a few discrete boxes.coldbrightsunlight wrote:Not immediately... Also, a lot of why I'm leaning towards getting out of euro is that I've been much more inspired by my Digitakt lately. As soon as I paired it with a MIDI controller (16n Faderbank) to open up some functionality, I've been much happier with it and it has helped me look at it as more than just a beat maker. I've really been enjoying stacking and mangling samples in a more ambient context on it, which is how I've mainly been using euro lately.
