Give me recs to add a third pickup on my jazzmaster

Can't help but notice all the space in the middle of my jazzmaster. I want to get it modded and add another pick up. Its the squier j mascis signature jazz master, so it actually has P90's than the conventional jazz master single coils.

Give me some recommendations. I want them to be high high high output, still single coils, wide frequency response and for reference, my fave guitar of all time is the OG rickenbackers with the toaster pickups, and I would just put one of those in but their output is so low. Does anyone know if the new hi gain pickups on the new rickenbackers are any good? Never played one.

Also for reference, I only exclusively play the the neck pickup on my jazz master. Dont play the bridge, the in between, or the rhythm. So those things there are being a little useless atm, open to any ideas and suggestions.

Novak probably has good options to put in a Jazzie cover. And I saw somewhere on here someone had snuck an ASAT MFD neck pickup in a Jazzie cover—sounded interesting.

I think I would want the mfd jazz pickups but they don't seem to sell them seperately looking on G&L's website and only on the Dohenys. Ffs.

Ok bad suggestion, only read the high gain part. I still stand by it though. Like everybody else is screaming in this thread; you will not get a toaster-sound from a high gain (passive) pickup. I think instead you should put proper jazzmaster pickups (or other low output single coil, chankgeez gold foil suggestion isnt bad either) for jangle tones and use an unmatched hotrod monster in the middle to get high gain tones like Wayne Kramer (albeit his tone came from the paintjob and that only!)

You could also do this even more insane thing and put in a 4-way switch (rotary or tele) so you can get series wiring (so a toggle works too but I like the 4-way idea better). That is gonna be muddy as shit though. BUT! You gut the rhythm switch and replace it with a treble booster so that you can put your guitar in super-jangle or ultra rock distortion mode. It will be awesome

well, given the JMJM pickup design, a P-90 would be the obvious choice. i really like the hi-gains on my Rick 360...not necessarily my *favorite* single-coils, but they're remarkably clear with great string-to-string separation. a used DeArmond 2000 like the ones used on 2010's Gretsch Electromatic models would possibly work as well. these are different to the DeArmond 2k PUs from the Guild DeArmond line; the 2000s are meant to emulate Dynasonics, while the 2Ks are more p-90ish. a benefit of the hi-gains and DAs is that they mount flush to the surface. repro Ric toaster PUs also exist. IIRC Duncan and Curtis Novak offer them among other builders, and Lindy Fralin will make you just about anything.

You could do that, idk if it would serve any purpose as it would probably lead to impedance weirdness. Though you could wire switchable high-pass filters for both pickups, that would kinda make sense in series
