Some good replicas out there. Even by Sanner himself.

Culturejam's fuzzrite is pretty good. The basic audio ones bring them to modern standards (and are more forgiving on input level/impedance). Lots of variety in the character of that transistor pair. Love my DanW replica the most maybe. The ghost Nu-Fuzz is great too.

Other new makes I like: ghost WEM V, silicon pepbox, mind rocker/fuzz face. Lastgasp 45 + 46 superfuzzes.

Ghost/Ian makes great stuff.

Sometimes it feels like we get so caught up in the “new” thing that we forget to respect the circuits that started it all...myself included.

And most of the time, even modern takes use these vintage circuits as a starting point. Their DNA is everywhere.

We also like to shit on “blooz lawyers”, but, would we have Keith Richards and others if they didn’t get inspired by those blues records? So shut the fuck up about trashing the blues. It’s an overdone and lazy dig. (And Mr. Richards using that ol’ OG fuzz...you know the one.)

Fuzz faces are really hitting me at the moment. They encourage expressive and dynamic playing and the good ones do amazing things with your guitar’s volume knob. I was pretty ignorant to how versatile they are. So fun to play and experiment with.

And I really admire the builders out there sourcing old and rare parts to do these vintage circuits justice. There’s a level of respect there that I really like.

Sometimes simplicity is incredibly refreshing and most of these circuits fall into that feeling.

pedals lose 1% of their sound every year they exist so old pedals are worse than new pedals

What part of the sound is being lost? A fuzz pedal sounds different on any given day due to temperature, power source, guitar, amp, and my inner ear health so 1% per year of a certain attribute is like a rain drop in the ocean

I mean do any of the blues lawyer type people care about the blues though? They always discuss modern blues rock. idk if I am genaralizing but I've never seen any tgp discuss like the fuzz on howlin's electric album or something

Exactly. I played bass in a blues/americana band for years, lots of pre ww2 stuff, I used fuzz all the time but in a apropreate way... Mr Richards has wayyyyy more to do with the creation of the blues lawyer than Skip James or Son House.
