A 15 watt tube amp with a 1/2 power switch in a 18mm plywood cabinet housing a nice G12H30 speaker...Those type of specs usually come with a price tag twice as big as what I paid.
So I'm not expecting stellar face melting toanz from an amp that costs less than a used strymon pedlol...But if there's anything I'm overlooking, if there's anything that might turn my tt combo into more than a jut a "decent bang for the buck"...I'd be interested in hearing about it.
Open back vs external closed back cabinet...That shouldn't be a huge factor, right?
I'll try an eq/booster tomorrow, to see if that somehow hides the dark/muddy/boxy character. It's like I need there's a thick blanket cover the cabinet, I'm hoping boosting the high mids will solve that somewhat. Any tubes in particular that make a considerable difference for the lifeless dark cleans or the overly compressed muddy overdrive? Maybe the G12H30 isn't the best match? Any easy mods maybe?
There's a couple of settings and very particular applications where this amp shines, and for the money there's really no better 1x12 alternative out there that offers the 7/15 watt option...:/
